| The week started on a good note for TV viewers.
The TV workers' strike has finally ended, and the shooting of some soaps has already begun. The workers had called the strike over low wages, and while it was to end a few days ago, a section of workers had held up shooting, demanding even higher wages. Dinesh Chaturvedi of the FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees) says, "I agree that the resentment amongst the workers who weren't satisfied with what was offered was disheartening. But I'm happy that the strike has been called off. Considering the assurance that we've received from Mukesh Bhatt (chairman, core producers' committee), I'm sure the problem has been solved." Producer Bonnie Jain adds, "There has been a major monetary loss for the producers because of the strike. But thankfully, the issue has been settled. Going by the current economic condition, the workers should be happy with the wage hike they've been given." Mukesh was quite happy with the fact that workers resumed shooting with the same determination and commitment they had earlier had towards their work. "I'm happy to see the workers satisfied. I've been like a father figure to them – I don't have any daily soap being aired on television, but I sympathised with the workers and fought for their rights because I understand that I have a great degree of responsibility towards them. I had also sent a letter to the federation applauding the spirit of the workers." |
