No politics for next 10 years: Sanjay Dutt

The actor wants to concentrate on his acting career that is going really good now

Sanjay Dutt, who once aired his wish to follow in the footsteps of his late father and central minister Sunil Dutt by joining politics, Saturday said he had deferred the idea and wanted to concentrate on his acting career instead.

"No politics for me till the next 10 years. I think I have another 10 years to go in acting and I have to pursue that. May be later, I take on politics," Dutt says.

The actor, who was convicted for illegal arms possession in the run-up to the 1993 serial bombings in Mumbai, said he need not be part of any political party to serve his nation.

"I'd love to serve my nation ? my country, but it is not necessary to do that by being associated with any kind of political party. I can do it without that and I have been doing it ? like I do a lot for cancer patients and street children who are on drugs and other things on drug abuse."

The actor also put to rest rumours of tension between him and his elder sister Priya Dutt for their father Sunil Dutt's Mumbai North West constituency. Sunil Dutt had died in 2005.

"There is nothing like that. I was never interested in the seat. The way my father passed away was so sudden that somebody from the family had to take over that. Priya had done so much of social work with our father and had travelled a lot with him. I thought she would be the best person to take over the seat," the star says.

Sanjay goes on to explain why he doesn't want to associate himself with the murky game of politics at this moment.

"I am basically from the heart and not the mind ? so politics basically doesn't go with me. So there was no kind of fight and it was a decision made by all of us though she didn't want to join. But she got into it and she won. My father's legacy had to go on," he ends.
