Yahaan the best performance of my career: Jimmy Shergill
New Delhi : He had what could easily be termed as a 'dream start' to his career with Aditya Chopra's 'Mohabbatein' where he rubbed shoulders with none other than Shah Rukh Khan.
As Karan, the "handsome youth with a disarming" smile in 'Mohabbatein', Jimmy Shergill earned maximum accolades of the cinegoers as well as the film industry, from among the three newcomers in the film. Five years down the line, Jimmy is still waiting for that 'big hit' that could propel him into the big league of stars on the Bollywood firmament despite having earned critical acclaim for his work in Sanjay Gadvi's 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai', Kundan Shah's 'Dil Hai Tumhara', Ananth Mahadevan's 'Dil Vil Pyar Vyar' and Tigmanshu Dhulia's Haasil'.
Jimmy, however, puts it all to just bad luck.
''I have been just a little unlucky in that none of my solo releases have hit the bull's eye at the box office. No matter how hard one tries, luck plays an extremely important factor for an actor making it in the top rank in Bollywood,''Jimmy told UNI in an interview here.
Currently, though, Jimmy is excited about his next solo release, Shooji Sircar's 'Yahaan', a love story in the backdrop of turbulence in Jammu and Kashmir.
As he talks about the film, where he plays an officer of the Rshtriya Rifles posted in Kashmir who falls in love with a local Kashmiri girl, there is palpable excitement in his voice.
''In the film I play a Rashtriya Rifles officer who has been transferred to Jammu and Kashmir. Here he falls in love with a Kashmiri girl Adaa. In the film they take on the might of the army, bureaucracy and militants to defend their love,''Jimmy said.
He believes that 'Yahaan' could be the first solohit he has been looking for all these years, a feeling that has been re-affirmed by the tremendous audience response to the film at the recently-concluded Osians' festival of Asian films where 'Yahaan' was premiered under the Indian competition section. The film also won a Special Jury prize at the festival.
''Yahaan is my best performance till date. Infact, I would say this is my best film in the last five years, I am really excited about the film and awaiting its release with fingers crossed. The last time I experienced a similar excitement was before the release of Tigmanshu Dhulia's 'Haasil', Jimmy said.
A major part of the film, which is scheduled for the release all tomorrow has been shot entirely in Kashmir. What is more, it has been shot in the areas of Kashmir that perhaps nobody has ever seen in Hindi movies.
''It was Tigmanshu Dhulia who suggested I meet Shoojit. The meeting left me highly impressed particularly by the fact that as a Director, Shoojit knew exactly what he wanted. Working with him on the film has only reaffirmed my belief,''Jimmy said.
