Black, Paheli, Veer Zaara in Golden Globe race

WASHINGTON: Bollywood blockbusters Black, Paheli and Veer Zaara are among the foreign films that qualified for nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, which precedes the Oscars.

Amol Palekar's fantasy Paheli, Yash Chopra's romance across the India-Pakistan border Veer Zaara, both starring Shah Rukh Khan, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black, the story of a blind girl and her mentor played by Rani Mukherji and Amitabh Bachchan respectively, are among the 60 foreign films selected for nomination to the 63rd edition of the awards.

Paheli, which also stars Rani, was nominated as the Indian entry for the Oscars.

Sixty foreign films have qualified for the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, Philip Berk, President of the Hollowood Foreign Press Association, organisors of the Golden Globe, announced on Thursday. There are four entries from China in the list dominated by European films.

The nominations for the awards will take place on December 13 at the Beverly Hilton.

The 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards gala will take place on January 16, 2006 at the Beverly Hilton.

The annual awards programme is being produced by the Dick Clark productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association with Allen Shapiro and Barry Adelman as executive producers.

Golden Globe, established over 60 years ago, is often seen as a precursor of the Oscars, or Academy awards. Quite often, winners at Golden Globe emerge as chosen ones to lift the Oscar statues.
