Hijaab for men

People usually only discuss 'hijaab' in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur'an, Allah (swt) first mentions 'hijaab' for men before 'hijaab' for the women. The Qur'an mentions in Surah Noor:

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do."
[Al-Qur'an 24:30]

The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.

Hijaab for women.

The next verse of Surah Noor, says:

" And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons..."
[Al-Qur'an 24:31]

In fact , the good word which means the veil of the muslim women is "khimar" ! In the Quran , a hijab is not really a veil , it means a barrier or a curtain but never a cloth worn by the women ...

a khimar is a long veil that dropes from the head (the hair ) to the bosoms ...
the other cloth that a muslim woman must wear is the "jilbab" (surat 33) which is all sort of coat , mantle , jacket , gown etc ...
3. Six criteria for Hijaab.

The clothes worn should not resemble that of the opposite sex.
anyway , because the veil distinguishes the women and the men
The clothes worn should not resemble that of the unbelievers i.e. they should not wear clothes that are specifically identities or symbols of the unbelievers' religions.
the veil is the cloth which really distinguishes the muslim women from the non-muslim ... there is no clothes which are specifically "non-muslim" , the creation , the design of the clothes are independent from the religion of each one
5. Hijaab prevents molestation
maybe , maybe not ...

I think that if you discuss with muslim women , they give you several definitions of what represents the khimar for them and the prevention of molestation is not necessarily one of the explanation given ....

I am a muslim woman , I wear the khimar and for me the veil significates a lot of things :

1- it is a symbol of humility
2- it protects from the society's view no matter if you are ugly or beautiful ...you don't have to exist by your body but as a full human being
3- it has to help muslim women to climb the social ladder not thanks to their physical aspect , their body but only thanks to their intellectual capacities ... and God knows that the woman body , especially , has always been "coveted"
4- it distinguishes the muslim-women from the others

good night everybody ! ;) Khoda hfez
