She's quite a picture of poise, even with the shears busy around her. She listens thoughtfully and seems comfortable in her skin as she speaks her mind (and more) in a freewheeling chat .
Excerpts from an interview:
Tell us a bit about your background.
I come from Darjeeling, the land of tea. In fact, my Dad makes amazing authentic green tea that's rich in antioxidants. He is a sportsman too and that kind of rubbed off on me, so I grew up playing cricket and baseball. I was a good student and the sport-captain of my school.
Do you think people behave differently towards you just because you're a star?
Kind of, yes. You do get a lot of attention but on a personal level, I don't mind being noticed as long as it's healthy and positive. Most people do that because they admire and like you.
You've been away from the film-scene. What do you think of the kind of films being made in India now?
Let's say 40 out of 100 films being made now stand out; they're not made with the aim of appealing to the masses. I also feel the quality of music in Indian films has greatly improved. On a lighter note, I love animated films being made in India. I recently saw some trailers and found it so cute.
Did you grow up wanting to become an actor?
No, not really. I didn't grow up thinking I would become this or that later in life. But I was good at giving girls haircuts and styling it for them when I was in school (laughs)... So maybe I would have been a good hairstylist if not an actor. But I always did have a lot of confidence and conviction in me.
What do you think of actors dating co-stars in Bollywood?
I am not against the idea of dating a co-star but you wouldn't want to date someone who is too self-involved, which unfortunately actors are!
n How would define your personal style?
I always like to feel fresh and comfortable. I also love to wear clothes which make me feel like a princess...really!
