One of the most enduring marriages in the film industry is on the verge of collapsing. Arshad Warsi and Maria Goretti, married for 10 years, are set to split. The news of trouble in their marriage has shocked the industry. Says a concerned mutual friend of the couple, "Arshad and Maria are having serious problems.
Arshad is a family-oriented guy. But unfortunately the family that Arshad so values has developed cracks. They're staying together because of their kids who have no clue about the breach in their parents' relationship. Maria has made it clear that she wants out. But Arshad will never let her leave their home.
He's too much of a gentleman for that. Right now he's leaving Mumbai for a long time. Once he returns, he hopes things will get better between them. Or he'll look for accommodation elsewhere."
According to our source, the trouble in the Arshad-Maria marriage had started long ago, but it's only now that things have to come to a head.
Our source adds. "Problems between them began after Arshad became part of the film industry. Maria felt totally isolated from his filmi friends, and atmosphere. He had hoped that with time she would come to terms with his work and his weird schedules.
But Maria wanted a normal healthy marriage. His crazy schedules and workaholism finally took their toll on her patience. She has made it clear that she wants out. They're now on the verge of separation."
Not many people in the industry know of the breach in the Arshad-Maria marriage. "Arshad has kept his marital problems under wraps for his children's sake.
Also because he has been hoping to sort things out between himself and Maria. Though he's very keen on a reconciliation, Maria seems rather adamant on calling off the marriage.
She was his devoted girlfriend for six years before they got married. And now they've been husband and wife for 10 years. Maria feels stifled. While Arshad has his work, she feels neglected. Recently when Arshad was shooting his first home production in London, Maria flew down with the kids to meet him.
But Arshad just didn't have time for her and the kids. So Maria came away from London disillusioned. It seems that's when she decided to call off the marriage," says our source.
When contacted Arshad refused to comment on his marital problems. "I'm leaving for Bangkok. When I return, I will leave immediately for Panchgani to shoot for Vishal Bhardwaj's Ishqiya for two months. So I'll be out of town for almost three months. I've no time to think of anything but my work now."
The couple's friends are hoping that a compromise can still be worked out. But secretly all those who love Arshad and Maria as a couple fear that one more marriage has fallen prey to the vagaries of showbiz.
