This at times does get to Annu's head and his opinions are a little dominant and often create friction with other judges. Well for the audience they love him, they hate him... but agree they can't ignore him. What happened with Annuji at the Jaipur auditions is worth watching. Imagine rubbing Annuji the wrong way! Outside the audition centre there were punching bags with pictures of each of the judges on it.This was put up to help the disappointed and angry contestants to give vent to their feelings--they could come and just punch their anger, frustration & more... Anurag, a contestant from Jaipur, lashed out on Annuji's punching bag… even before he went to the audition… to his bad luck Annuji who had just stepped out noticed it. What was Annuji's reaction? Did Anurag get to audition? | | | | | | Move your body, baby! Our country has all kinds of singers – some who are melodious… some just hum and some are nasal singers… but Manendra who made it to the Indian Idol 4 auditions was unique. He used his entire body while singing… he moved according to the tune of the song. If the song had high notes, then his hands and fully body would move upwards and so on… The judges found this extremely funny and could not control their expressions through his audition… Sonali broke into continuous giggles… Annu started to rag him and made him sing a few more songs. Later Kailash quizzed Manendra on why he moved so much through his performance, Manendra confidently said "This is the only way I can concentrate on my singing and control my sur" Well this is rather a new discovery for musicians for sure… and whether this helped Manendra get through to the next round or not… you'll have to wait and watch! | | | | | | Salma Agha resurrected! Laxmi Nagaar is a young girl from the small village in Gwalior with big dreams! She has learnt music from her father who has been singing and playing various music instruments to sustain the family. When Laxmi got a chance to audition for Indian Idol 4 in front of the jury she was more than happy. Laxmi hopes to take the voice of great singer Salma Agha to the hearts of the young audiences. Her rendition of the song Bichde bhi toh hum bus kal parso struck a chord with the judges but it didn't impress them enough to call her to Mumbai for the next round. Laxmi requested the jury to give her a second hearing… | | | | | | Javed, & Kailash pay tribute to Tansen This time, Indian Idol 4 auditions reached Gwalior. The city has a lot to boast of… Gwalior's history is traced back to a legend in 8th century AD. Rich in cultural heritage and architectural marvels, the city has the advantage of its proximity to Agra, the city of Taj Mahal, Khajuraho, the city of great temples and Delhi, the national capital. Our judges Javed Akhtar and Kailash Kher decided to visit Tansen's dargah and pay their tribute to the talented singer of the Mughal era before they started their journey and carried out the auditions in Gwalior. | | | | | | Singing Kailash's songs in Atif Aslam's style! This Saturday episode of Indian Idol 4 showcases the auditions in Dubai, the desert city. Judges Kailash Kher and Sonali Bendre were surprised to see the talent that queued up and the overwhelming response to the call for auditions. Kailash was excited to know that there were contestants who came into audition only for him and were his ardent fans… There was one contestant who particularly stood out. The contestant, in his raw and sharp voice, rendered Kailash's song. To this Kailash immediately commented "Why are you singing my song in Atif Aslam's style?" Sonali found the contestant's performance over the top and played a joke through the auditions on every contestant who proposed to sing a Kailash song. She instead recommended them to sing an Atif Aslam number and reasoned it with "Kailash really likes Atif and his song will make him happy." Well, this certainly had Kailash in a tight spot. But who cares? Sonali was having a great laugh! | | | | | | Javed Saab's global connection Indian Idol auditions reveals not only the talent this country has in different cities and states but also give glimpses of the different facets of our judges. At the Gwalior auditions, the otherwise serious and strict Javed was seen aping a contestant after he left the audition room… Not only this, Javedsaab also lent his strong support to Sonali when Annuji was up against her. In fact many a times Javedsaab added fuel to the fire to aggravate Annuji and sat back to have a hearty laugh. This one took the cake… during the London auditions a contestant was so overwhelmed by his Javed's personality that he insisted that he leave only after he kissed the lyricist! | | | | | | Kailash Kher fan club unplugged! Looks like everyone's out to woo the newest judge on Indian Idol 4 - Kailash Kher. Every other contestant renders a new version of the musician's hit song Teri Deewani. Through the auditions, Kailash not only had to judge the vocal skills of contestants, but also hear them sing his song repeatedly. In fact, the Lucknow auditions had not just one but six people auditioning together—members of the All India Kailash Fan Club. Kailash, who struggled his way to success, was overwhelmed to know that his fans respected so much that they even started a fan club. But when they sang a besura version of Teri Deewani. Annu couldn't control his laughter and poked fun, saying, "Kailash tumhare fans toh bohit surile hain!" An upset Kailash retorted, "Fans hona ek baat hai aur surile doosri." Kailash joined his fans on stage and dedicated a song to them. Three cheers for Kailash! | | | | | | Javed, the taskmaster Javed Akhtar is infamous for his rigidity and strict adherence to proper pronunciation. When it came to Lucknow, the lyricist-poet had great expectations from the talent there. The city is known for its heritage, culture and, most importantly, the beautiful language Urdu. But Javedsaab was taken aback with the contestants' diction and pronunciation. One of the contestants, while singing, pronounced flower as fool and not phool. Javedsaab was quick to notice and instantly corrected the contestant. The next contestant, too, wrongly pronounced his words. He sang fir (again) and not phir, which had Javedsaab literally tutoring him. He took a paper and pen to actually explain the difference between the two words! | | | | | | Memory like an elephant Annu Malek is known not just for his music, but also for his memory. At the Lucknow auditions, when a contestant named Neha entered the audition room, Annu immediately said he had met her somewhere. Neha said she had auditioned for season 2 of Indian Idol, where she cleared the auditions and reached the Mumbai round. But, unfortunately, she was eliminated because she forgot the lyrics of the song! So she is back to try her luck again. | | | | | | The singing sensation Ananya Mishra, Pandit Birju Maharaj's granddaughter, is a bundle of talents, full of energy, and blessed with a golden voice. There is no denying that music and art run in her blood. Her father is a Kathak dance professor and her nanaji is Kishan Maharaj. Ananya's performance instantly impressed all the judges and they unanimously agreed to send this young talent from Benaras straight to Mumbai for the theatre rounds! | | | | | | Indian Idol is also about performance Kamlendra from Lucknow took the performance angle a tad too seriously. He wanted to impress the judges within the first few minutes of his performance, but what he had them wide-eyed instead. He entered the audition room doing acrobatics. The judges were confused about whether he had mistaken it to be a dance audition! The worst was yet to come. When the judges asked Kamlendra to sing, he broke into ballet and sang a yesteryear number, Aake teri bahon mein… har shaam lage sindoori. Sonali, who had been desperately trying to control her laughter, could not stop herself and broke into giggles, leaving Kamlendra wondering if he had given a bad performance. Well, we leave it to the viewers to judge this one! | | |
