just like last week, there were multiple releases this week. And Rock On!! continues to do well at the ticket window. Its net collections in India have crossed Rs 10 crore mark at the end of its second week run. Amongst last week's releases, only UTV's, A Wednesday can be termed a success as both Hijack and Tahaan proved to be box office duds.
A Wednesday's net collections were Rs 3.30 crore in its first week. Hijack grossed Rs 2 crore whereas Tahaan managed a paltry Rs 35 lakhs in its first week. A Wednesday's collections are growing and are expected to be much better in its second week than its first.
Let us have a look at how the new releases faired at the box office -
Atul Mohan of Complete Cinema, says, "Ru Ba Ru has been a complete washout. At some places it was taken off the screens on Saturday itself. Many exhibitors had enquired with me on Thursday about the expected response to it so that they can keep a substitute ready for the same. But I told them it was too late by then too ask. Now after a very bad opening day, they have substituted Ru Ba Ru by giving additional shows to A Wednesday. The failure of The Last Lear was somehow expected. Its target audience was very limited and even those who enjoy sensible cinema are finding it too heavy and going over their heads. 1920 has fared better. Given its low cost and rights sell of to Reliance owned BIG Pictures, the producers will not entail any losses.
At PVR Cinemas, Mumbai, an official told us, "1920 saw a better turnout on first three days compared to The Last Lear and Ru-Ba-Ru. We had increased the shows for A Wednesday in its second week and it has not disappointed us. Rock On however continues to be the young brigade's favourite. Interestingly we also saw a lot of 40 plus crowd coming for it in the evening shows and on weekends.
