Well...I'm very happy that Rafa has finally come to the #1 spot...coz he deserved it/ The way he played this season, barring Aus Open and Cincy masters....he was in terrific form. And he stamped his class at Beijing. But this doesn't mean that Roger is down and out. The manner in which he played the Wimby final showed what a true champion really is. Roger is going to be back....and believe me....he's going to be back with a bang!! This dethroning will work as a motivator for him!!

Federer is already on the way back to his number One with his win in the US Open.
Congrats to Nadal on a great season, but until he can sustain this level of play for as long as Federer did and still continues to do, only then he can truly be number one in the world.
One great season doesn't a champion make in my opinion. So lets look forward with interest and awe to 2009.

I'm a huge fan of Nadal. I admire his self belief and the fact that he never gives up. He's worked really hard to make the transition from clay to grass and did it in a short amount of time. He plays with a lot of force and jumps around like a boxer lol! but when he's off court he's so humble and soft spoken. And I like the fact that he has a lot of respect for Roger Federer...it's nice to know that despite their rivalry, there is mutual appreciation and genuine friendship.
Seems like Nadal will lose the number one position to Federer but I don't see an issue in it. Both are champions in their own right and the number one postion comes and goes. But despite being a Nadal fan I'm glad that it will be Federer taking number one spot again because he is a class act and it's always a pleasure to watch him. I don't know how he does it but he makes tennis look so easy! Federer is definitely a genius. He will go down in history as one of the greats no doubt.
I personally want to see more finals between Nadal and Federer...their rivalry is something special. And both are complete opposites but very interesting characters, both are important for the sport!

I agree that Federer-Nadal finals are something great to watch, but on a lighter side I think Federer needs to win some of these clashes for it to actually be considered a rivalry- a point which Andy Roddick had made a few years ago, (meaning Roddick needed to start winning some matches agaist Federer)- when he was asked about his rivalry with Federer.
But in all seriousness, with the class of players out there, it is a great time to be a tennis fan!

Yeah I remember Roddick saying that....I think after his second wimbledon loss to Federer, right? But with Nadal and Federer I think it's different to Roddick and Federer. With Nadal and Federer I think we can call it a rivalry because you cannot actually say who will win, it's a tough call. And their previous two wimbledon meetings have shown how close and evenly matched they were. If these two continue to meet at Wimbledon, it will probably always be close! French open is slightly different because Nadal has dominated but even there I feel that Federer will win there at some point....seems like he's working on it (and he won't give up, being the champ he is) Roddick on the other hand never managed to become Federer's rival (something which was hyped quite a lot) Plus federer and Nadal to me seem as the two main tennis giants at this point in time. Yes there are many other youngsters playing really well at the moment but these two seem to be the players that will remain at the forefront for quite some time.
You're very right about being a tennis fan at this time....there is so much talent and so many players of different styles and personalities. It's great to watch 😃
