As the holy month of Ramzaan appears closer, one always sees a heavy rush by filmmakers to release their films before the month begins. Knowing well that it all leads to professional hara-kiri, Bollywood filmmakers still each and every year religiously follow this trend! Last Friday one saw three releases – Phoonk [Watch Trailer] , Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam [READ REVIEW] and Mumbai Meri Jaan coming together. While a moderately budgeted Phoonk (Rs 5 crore) managed to score at the box office, MGMA was a washout and Mumbai Meri Jaan saw a slight increase to its otherwise not so encouraging opening as the week progressed.

This week too we saw four releases – Mukhbiir, Chamku, C Kkompany and Rock On!! Amongst these only Rock On!! managed to rock the box office while the rest three proved to be complete duds! The opening of Rock On!! was very strong in big cities all over India such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

J Popat, GM of the late NN Sippy's Janata Films Distributors, observes, "Rock On!! has connected very well with the urban youth. Youngsters have loved its music and the film being very good has been the added bonus. Bobby Deol starrer Chamku was nothing but old wine in new bottle. It was the same old revenge drama which the audiences of today are bored of watching. C Kkompany had some funny moments but again the major part of the film was simply unbearable. No one was expecting any miracles from Mukhbiir and it didn't disappoint those who were expecting it to have the lowest openings. In fact, shows of Mukhbiir at some multiplexes had to be cancelled. The Ramzaan period begins tomorrow and Rock On!! will be the film that shall be least affected by it because it is targeted at the multiplex going urban youth."
