Poonam stars in Pakistani serials

Poonam Dhillon has chosen TV over films in the second innings of her career. The busy mom of three kids is currently acting in a Pakistani show Mohabbat Khwaab Ki Soorat on Geo TV. When asked what made her take up Pakistani serials, she says, "Actually, a journo friend recommended this role. The producers approached me and when I went through the outline story, I found the subject to be quite interesting. I said yes instantly. Another thing which prompted me to say yes is the fact that everyone in our country is wary and curious about Pakistan. So was I. And most importantly, my parents hail from Pakistan. Apart from me being the central character, the best part is that it travels from young age to old. I get to play a daughter, a wife and finally a mother."

She says the role is different from the usual stuff. There's a strong political side to the character of 'Sheher bano' which Poonam plays. She faces strong parental opposition followed by a strenuous relationship with her sons. There is tremendous growth in the character. Poonam had no problem with the language. "It wasn't very difficult because I am fluent in Hindi. And most of the words used in Urdu are present in Hindustani too. Also, I used to write most of the script and dialogues in Roman English to get my pronunciation right," she says.

Since it's not easy to travel to Pakistan frequently, the show was shot mostly in Dubai. "It was a lovely experience. The unit was great, people very friendly and unlike our tele serials, they shoot the serials well in advance, so there is no last moment rush," Poonam said
