Neha Bamb wants a voice of her own

Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai actress says her character's voice is dubbed by someone else

Neha Bamb, who plays Kripa, the protagonist of Sony's romantic sitcom Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, admits it isn't her voice you hear on your television every night.

"I don't dub for my scenes. Someone else does. I dubbed only once and it took me a long time – almost six hours. And the rate at which we shoot and our soaps go on air, (generally daily soaps don't have a sufficient reserve of episodes) the production couldn't invest so much time for dubbing. We have to shoot for the coming episodes and sometimes also give finishing touches to the ones we've already shot. So, they couldn't spare time for me to dub."

Wasn't she given time to improve on her dubbing skills or assigned a trainer? "No. There is no time. And since I live in Chembur, it is a little difficult to shuttle between sets (Sankraman at Goregaon), my residence, and the dubbing studio (Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri). But I will soon ask Ekta (Kapoor) to give me an opportunity to dub my voice," she says.

But she is also sceptical about how the audience will react to the sudden change in Kripa's voice, if Bamb starts to dub it. "If a change in track is introduced, like a generational leap, or an incident that happens to me to justify the change in voice, it will not be a shock to the audience." Incidentally, Bamb hasn't even met the lady who dubs for her screen character.

As it turns out, Bamb has never dubbed for her work at all. "I have done three Telugu films and one Kannada film before Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai (which happens to be her first Hindi serial). My voice had to be dubbed for the films, because I couldn't deliver the south Indian accent convincingly."

Interestingly, even Aamna Sharif's voice was dubbed for almost a year and a half for Kahiin To Hoga. Sources say that her speech lacked clarity, a problem that she has worked on. She now dubs for herself.

Even Jasveer Kaur, who played Smriti on K Street Pali Hill had her voice dubbed by someone else.

Creative head of Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai Shivangi Chauhan said, "Her voice is dubbed by someone else because Neha has a child-like voice, which doesn't suit her character."
