Okay so I know Shankar got annoyed that every1 was yelling at him and that y he told his parents about the abortion but I feel that things like this should be kept between a husband and wife. Like yeah Yashoda went to tell Gayatri the right thing but i feel like its not her business. And no matter what a mother has the most right over her child. I didnt like how everyone knew about it and that evil girl was commenting.
What do you think, in matters like this should the whole family have a say or is it betweeen the husband and wife?

I see your point of view and agree too, but I think the family should be aware of such things too. Afterall, they also have some right on the unborn baby!

i understand the whole husband wife thing
but i was just so happy the mother went and talked to gayatri.
baby is the whole family's
the character of the mother was projected very well. showed she can be nice but tough and like a real mother as well.
fight the problem type of a thing.
nice

they live in a middle class joint family!!! in india middle class families nothing can be hidden from the family even if husband and wife want!
but yaa even i feel, her mother in law had no right to lecture her like that, its her child, her life and her body! they shouldnt force her to have the child!!

It shud be between the husband and the wife..

yes, I believe the family does have a right to a certain extent, but they just crossed the limit by lecturing her and stuff. They should have respected her decision and supported her... loll like they couldn't change it, so why create problems.. just go wid the flow..

I was thinking exactly the same thing whilst watching... there seems to be some sort of breakdown in communication between Shankar and Gayatri at the moment..😕 but, perhaps this was one thing that didn't have to brought out in front of the family..😳

I'd rather Shankar had kept it to himself and not let his wife fall, to some extent, in the eyes of the rest of the family. Luckily it didn't turn into a big molehill...😛 although the matter was pretty serious stuff. 😳

I really dont think grandparents have the right to have a say in whether the baby shud exist or not. they can give their opinions, but i dun think they shud say it the way Yashoda did,"what right do u have to abort the baby"
i guess shankar was sick of every1 yelling at him about everything, but i wish he had kept it to himself
then again i guess in the joint families in india, every1 has a say in everything.

see, i can't imagine my mom in law saying such a thing to me either - because i can't see her being responsible for the baby either. but in small town india, or in traditional families, it is very much the family's baby. all responsibilities of looking after the baby lie not only on the couple, but the in laws too. the baby is the inheritor, the waaris of all that is his father's family's. in that light, i found yashodha's comment one of wisdom and love and responsibility. because she has accepted gayatri as her responisibility and that does give her some rights too.
i know one of my aunt's prevented her dil from aborting her kid - saying i will look after it. and she does. my sister in law is very grateful, and doesn't look upon it as interference, but support.
so it takes all kinds of families....
