Artticle:Is it curtains for Mahabhaarat on 9x?

If reports of Ekta Kapoor's Mahabhaarat, coming to an end are true then it's a huge set back to the queen B of Indian television. There has also been some speculation that her popular soaps on Star Plus( Kyon Ki..., Kahani... and Kasturi) might be shown the door as well.

The magnum opus has been under scrutiny from day one. The show has been attacked on as the channel feels you cannot play with the religious sentiments of millions. The look was not Indian rather it had a Greek feel to it. Balaji of course defends it as their interpretation.

In all probability Ekta erred by being in a hurry to launch before Star Plus's version of the great Indian epic was ready. The release date as planned originally was August 15, 2008 but then suddenly the date was preponed to July. But Dheeraj Kumar who has made many mythologicals maintains that it takes time to make shows in this genre.

Some people felt that known faces are never accepted in mythologicals but Chetan Hansraj maintained that when films stars can do different roles why not us.

Apparently the show has failed to generate the required TRPs and advertisers are not too keen on the final product. In this scenario does it make sense for the channel to pump in one crore per episode.

The channel is trying very hard to create a buzz about the show, but so far it doesn't seem to be succeeding.
