Noted film actor Aamir Khan is to be the brand ambassador for Incredible India's Atithi Devo Bhava campaign for the Union Tourism Ministry.

"I am very happy to be part of the Incredible India campaign," Khan said.

The decision to appoint Khan as the brand ambassador for the campaign was taken on Friday after the meeting between Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni and Khan.

Khan will promote the Ministry's efforts both for domestic and foreign tourists through ad campaigns in print and electronic media to increase social awareness about the needs of the tourists, specially women visitors.

The Incredible India campaign is a beautiful campaign and we have to take it further for our country, he said.

There will be road shows and public events involving Khan besides ad campaigns.

The actor will not take any fee for the campaign.

"I am not charging any fee and I am doing it as part of my social responsibility," he said.

Expressing her happiness over the association of Aamir Khan with the Ministry, Soni said the mass appeal of the actor will further boost its efforts to make people aware about the safety and security of tourists, hygiene, sanitation and vandalisation of historical monuments.
