As a child he experienced what is known as childhood night terrors, although at the time, being a child myself, I could hot comprehend what he was going through. Now I have gained more understanding of it. He went through the typical sleepwalking, night sweats, and sleep talking. The strange thing about my brother is that although this stopped at his adolescence, he would still experience strange occurrences up till this day, even as an adult at 23.
In high school, I could remember him asking me about his childhood terrors and how the night before he slept in my parents' room for the same reason. My mom explained how he came into her room frightened because he felt a paralyzing presence over his body and felt something force him off his bed. He was able to fall asleep again with my mom when shortly after, my mom awoke to my brother on the floor because "something" yanked him off again. Being a dedicated Catholic, my mom advised my brother to see a priest for a blessing.
This did not happen again for another few years, but the next time was something a little harder to believe. My brother was home alone in my parents' room watching TV when the power went out in our house. He saw what appeared to be the shadow of a man's figure on the roof. He claims to have heard something running lightly on the roof and ran outside as he heard it jump off to the neighbors. What was strange is that our neighbor's lights did not go off, but he heard something land on their roof yet saw nothing.
If it is just my brother's bad luck. I don't know, but these past few days (now in 2008) have made me question whether or not these strange occurrences have only been directed toward my brother.
About a year ago, our new neighbor shot and killed his wife on a rampage and shot himself shortly after. My brother was sitting on the front porch and witnessed the whole thing in shock. I bring this up because it was after this that we began to experience the paranormal as a whole family, but mostly my brother. These past couple of weeks, we have heard strange things around our house. Even friends that visit have witnessed ghostly my figures and strange vibes.
What my boyfriend thought he saw was the figure of perhaps an old woman because of how she was dragging her feet, and had seemed to have gray hair. This presence has been here, that we know, for only a few weeks, so it's a bit confusing since all three cases appear to be directed at my brother.
In two cases, my brother's friend saw something walk to the restroom and turn off the lights. Thinking it was my brother, she walked over from his room to meet him, but the restroom was empty and she freaked out. Another case was one my boyfriend and I experienced. We were on the floor in my room. I was giving him a massage while he was facing down. We heard what we thought was my mom in her slippers walking by hallway toward my brother's room, so we didn't say anything. My boyfriend was curious, so he looked up just in time to see someone walk into my brother's room. He thought perhaps my brother got home, but shortly after my mom called out my name and we walked over asking if she had just walked by; she answered no.
Other than that, we have heard strange voices, but never heard exactly what they were saying. Recently, my brother was home alone again and washing his face when he began to feel a cold presence and fear. As he looked away from the mirror toward the ceiling, the door from my room slammed shut. He could not move as he felt something breathing down his right shoulder. He thought he was just overreacting, so he walked to my room, thinking I was home. He knocked on my door; he opened it only to find an empty room.
What has been taunting my brother all these years? Is it all in his head? Why have we seen and heard similar things around our house? This is what I am trying to figure out. I can only continue to share this story and keep researching both religious and non-religious solutions because could it be that my brother's night terrors have come back to claim him? I joke about it with him, but that is why I take an interest in him and will continue my search for an answer.
