Salman's no match for IPL
After the mammoth success of IPL, Sony somehow took it for grated that Salman's Dus Ka Dum would rake in similar TRPs. Well, being a faithful Sallu fan I somehow hoped that WOULD indeed happen as well. But looks like the channel gave the percentage based show a little too much credit. The show, we hear has been averaging around TRP of 2 with a spike of 4.
Producer Anita Kaul blames this 'phenomenon' on the fact that all TRP scenes have flattened out.
"The massive explosion of channels has led to fragmentation of viewership," says Kaul. "Did your hit fiction shows not have TRPs of 22 a while ago… what happened to that? The problem with a channel is that they expect every show to hit double digit figures which is really not practical."
But shouldn't the Salman factor account for something more special than a dismal 2?
"Times have changed after SRK and other film stars have entered TV so the audiences now want something beyond star value," opined the producer.
However even this limited rating of 2 is good for Sony, which has lower ratings for some other shows of theirs. If anything then Dus Ka Dum has helped the channel up its figures.
One of my special inside source tells me, "We rate better then Panchvi Pass... Kaul blamed the super success of IPL and format for the non success of SRK show. She further felt that the current environment is not conducive to quiz shows. Hence all the news of possibly KBC returning is pure speculation..."
