He played a tawaif
Raahil Azim has the distinction of portraying a tawaif on the small-screen. We have seen many heroes dressing in drag to play a prank on the heroine but this is the first time a male actor has played the role of a tawaif in Sony's Baabul Ka Angan Chootey Na. "When the serial started I was shown to be mad because I had lost my beloved Payal, and I ended up dressing up like a woman ," informs Raahil. It was a challenging role "as I had no references because no man had played a tawaif". So, Raahil went by his instincts and worked on small things like how a woman would react if she had injured her leg, if she was angry or had eaten too much mirchi. "Once I got into the outfit, the walk and the poise came automatically," he grins. As a woman he got his share of respect as well as eve-teasing on the sets. "The guys tried to hit on me," he laughs. However, all that is behind him now, courtesy the main lead of the serial Aastha. Raahil's girlfriend looked like Aastha and when he sees her he thinks it's Payal. The family doesn't correct his preception and he continues to tease and flirt with her. Aastha, however, is married to his brother Siddharth. "Currently, Swayam is behaving normally but I don't know what will happen when he comes to know the truth," says Raahil who considers this as one of his best roles. But his favourite script remains Resham Dankh. The serial, however, didn't do well. "I don't know what went wrong, but I enjoyed doing it," he says. This was followed by Betiyaan Apni Ya Paraya Dhan and Parivaar. While Betiyaan.. has gone off air, Raahil opted out of Parivaar after four months for "personal reasons".
