Smriti's Show Stalled - Article

Smriti Irani's much publicized show 'Shakkubai', which revolved around the character of a Maharashtrian maid trying to solve the problems of different families, has been stalled and is unlikely to get the required go ahead from the Zee channel.


Sources say that the channel took a decision not to telecast the show as it did not find favour with the audiences, who were more interested in drama than comedy of this sort. The show was largely inspired by films like Bawarchi and Hero No 1.

It may be recalled that the comedy show has been in the eye of a storm from the very beginning and Renuka Shahane had even refused to be a part of it, because it more or less copied the style of Marathi show 'Kumari Gangubai Non-Matric' of ETV. It was only then that Varsha Usgaonkar was roped in to do the title role, but she could not attract the audiences enough to salvage the show.

After the rejection of the comedy show, Smriti is working on another show which has reputed cast like that of Iqbal Khan, Rucha Gujarathi and Yuvraaj Malhotra.
