Yash Pandit

Film actor Yash Pandit is delighted about his television debut.

The young actor has replaced Pulkit Samrat as Lakshya in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and right now, the main track in the serial revolves around him. So why did he decide to get into television after doing movies like Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai, Rok Sako To Rok Lo and a Bengali film Faltu that won a national award? "Movie offers were there, but they were not the kind I wanted to do. So for almost a year I was sitting at home. I had lots of TV serial offers but at the time I wanted to stick to films only," he says.

However, sitting at home can be frustrating for any actor, he points out. "There was hunger for work. When I got this offer I was more than convinced."

Of course movies are still very much on, adds Yash, who's looking to balance both the mediums.
Ask him about the controversy surrounding his character (Pulkit Samrat had fallen out producer Ekta Kapoor over this), and he coolly replies, "That doesn't concern me in any way. For me it's only the role that matters," he says.

Yash is singer Shweta Pandit's elder brother and he too has a good voice. In fact he has sung in the past with his sister at a couple of shows abroad. But, as he says, he had to make a choice. "I chose acting over singing," he says. A movie-buff, he loves watching all kinds of films — Hindi, English and even some regional films. "I also tend to focus on the technical aspects including the lighting, location, sound, mood, camera angle etc," he reveals.
So do we have a director in the making? "I don't know about the future, may be. But for now it's only acting," he smiles.
