And there it is. Neil has his own spin on the conversation. He did not hear what Geet told him. He heard his own version of it. Now he has gone and told his mother his version in a way that makes him look all good and noble. That is what he will do. Guilt trip in a way that appears all noble to others. He changes the words around to derive a different meaning. He is so confidant that there will be a yes coming, eventually. There was no such indication. While he did not lie (he thinks), he still presented a different version than the absolute truth. That is where he becomes dangerous. His mother will figure out its Geet in no time and start giving off vibes to others in the family. If Geet does not speak up, she will find herself stuck in a web that will be spun around her.
