India, the heavy favourites, enters the knockout stage of the Men's cricket competition in the 2026 Asian Games today and they're up against Afghanistan in the second QF. Since India sent a full-strength squad, anything less than a gold medal will be disappointing. This also means the pressure will be squarely on Shreyas Iyer and his world champions. It hasn't been easy for India since that WC win in 2026; they have since lost to Ireland and England in bilateral contests and barely scraped past Japan more recently. Having arrived in Japan more than a week ago, they have, however, had time to acclimatize to the conditions, although frequent rain has ensured they've had very little chance for outdoor nets. Their opponents today, Afghanistan, have blown hot and cold in the league phase. They were restricted to a modest 129 by Japan and then shockingly lost to Nepal. This result means they face the gold medal favourites earlier than they probably wished. They haven't sent their best side and they're up against the odds, but this team has plenty of international flavour. Can they upset the odds and progress to the semis? The weather forecast today is for heavy showers. In case of a washout, India will advance because they are ranked higher.
