When it comes to ODI's, West Indies are in a very ordinary form. They last participated in an ODI Series back in July this year against New Zealand. They lost it by 3-2 and that too at home.

West Indies are led by Shai Hope. They have named a strong squad that includes players like Jayden Seales, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Keacy Carty and Alzarri Joseph.

Even though West Indies wouldn't start as favorites, they are still capable of causing an upset or two against the hosts.

For India, where the spotlight is rarely dim, every performance will bring its share of interest, praise and scrutiny. Hello and welcome, everyone! It's time for the first ODI between India and West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.

On paper, it is a contest between the No.1 and No.10 teams in the ODI rankings. WI's record vs India makes for difficult reading. They have not won an ODI series in India since 2002, while their last series win against India came in 2006. Since then, they have lost 13 consecutive ODI series against the Men in Blue. West Indies will also have a longer road to the 2027 World Cup, with their place in the tournament to be decided through the Qualifiers. Shai Hope and his men have their work cut out. But India are hardly entering this series without questions of their own, having lost two of their last three ODI series. So, can WI spring a surprise, or will India have it their way once again?

Not everything is smooth sailing for India in this format. Since winning the Champions Trophy in 2025, India have played five ODI series and lost three of them. They will also be without Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah, all currently in Japan for the Asian Games, while their star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is sidelined with an injury. Their absences open the door for Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja to strengthen their case. In Bumrah's absence, India's pace attack will also be under the microscope. Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar have struggled for consistency, while Mohammed Siraj has played just nine ODIs since the 2023 World Cup, taking only eight wickets at 46.87. The current management also values batting depth at No. 8, so don't be surprised if Auqib Nabi gets an opportunity at some point in the series.
