PART 1 – A BOND CALLED FAMILY
Scene 1 – Two Broken Families
Vrinda and her younger brother Sid had lost their parents years ago.
They lived with their stepmother Tripti, who treated them as unwanted burdens. She had her own daughter, Mitali, who was cunning, selfish, and manipulative like Tripti.
She never made Mitali do any dirty work, while she made Vrinda do all the household chores, regardless of her health or sickness.
One day, Tripti said, "Here are the clothes that you need to wash.
Vrinda: I need detergent to put them in the washing machine.
Tripti: The washing machine consumes more power, and you are nothing less than a maid here.
Vrinda was frustrated but had no words. However, she took a silent oath to leave the house once she got a job.
She joined Angad's company to support herself and pay for Sid's education. She worked sincerely and never complained. However, Tripti demanded the entire salary and spent that money on Mitali's fashionable dresses, makeup, and partying. Yet, Vrinda and Sid didn't complain.
In the other household were Angad and his younger sister Samaira, who were also orphans.
Angad worked hard, built his company, recruited a team, and supported Samaira's education. In the process, he had become Samaira's protector.
In the same way, Vrinda had become Sid's protector. She never compromised on his education and went out of her way.
Neither sibling pair had a normal childhood.
One morning, Vrinda prepared Sid's schoolbag.
Sid: Didi, did you eat breakfast?
Vrinda: I'll eat at the office.
Sid: You always say that.
Vrinda smiled.
Vrinda: And you always worry about me.
Sid: Because you're my mother, father, and sister all together.
Vrinda hugged him.
Vrinda: And you're my whole world.
Sid came back from school, troubled. Vrinda noticed that and asked, "What happened, Sid? Aren't you in your usual self?
Sid: How can I hide things from you? The fee due date has come, and we haven't paid.
Vrinda was in a fix, but she was also helpless as she had to give her entire salary to Tripti.
She said, "Don't worry, I will see what best I can do."
However, Vrinda thought, "As long as the matter was within me, it was fine, but I need to speak to Mom.
Vrinda thought of a strategy to make Tripti happy so she would give her money to pay Sid's fees, thinking, "Tripti can't be so heartless."
She completed the household chores on time, denying herself. The family enjoyed the food she prepared. After everything was complete, Vrinda went to Tripti's room and said, "Aunty, I need to speak to you."
She had to call Tripti aunty, as the latter never allowed her or Sid to call her mom.
Tripti angrily asked, "What is it you want to talk to me about?"
Vrinda: I need to pay Sid's school fees, and I don't have money because I gave it to you. I request you to give me the amount to pay the fees.
Tripti: Everything is spent, and the salary you get isn't sufficient.
Vrinda: Whatever I get is more than enough, but you take the entire amount. I know how you spend money. When you can spend it on expensive clothing and makeup kits, it isn't a big deal for you to leave something for Sid. I am not asking you to cut down the amount you spend on Mitali and the kitty parties. Also, you get money from that party. Please oblige this time.
Tripti: So you are pointing out my expenses? Who gave you this right? And why should I spend my money on you guys? If you're not comfortable here, you can leave.
Vrinda: I thought you would change one day, but now I understand you are selfish and inhuman. Even we don't want to live with you. If possible, buy some humanity with the money that you have.
Vrinda went to the room and started packing. Sid came there and asked, "Where are you going?"
Vrinda: I don't think we can stay here for any longer. So we have to leave this house for good.
Sid: I'm sorry. It's because of me that you fought with Tripti Aunty.
Vrinda: No, Sid, it's not your fault. It's this environment's fault that we have to leave. I don't think we have any future in this house.
Sid: Yes, Di, you are right.
Both packed their bags and left the house. But they didn't know where they were going. Exhausted from walking all night, they sat on the staircase near a church.
The next day, the church opened its doors. A pastor saw them sitting on the stairs and asked, "What is the matter?"
Vrinda said, "We are orphans and have a stepmother who threw us out of the house. We are looking for a place to stay. I work at a company, and I will rent a house once I have money. I request you to accommodate us for now."
Father said, "Yes, we accommodate needy people. There are all facilities here. You guys can stay here as long as you want."
Sid and Vrinda take refuge in the church.
Scene 2 – Angad and Samaira
Angad was preparing breakfast for Samaira.
Samaira: Bhai, you're going to be late.
Angad: Let me be late. You haven't finished your breakfast.
Samaira: You behave like a father.
Angad: Someone has to.
Samaira smiled.
Samaira: You know what I want?
Angad: What?
Samaira: I want us to have a proper family someday.
Angad: You will.
Samaira: Promise?
Angad: Promise.
Scene 3 – At the Office
Kartik was another employee.
He immediately became fond of Vrinda.
Kartik: You know you're like my elder sister.
Vrinda: Really?
Kartik: Yes. From today, you're my sister.
Vrinda: Then where is my Rakhi?
Kartik laughed.
Kartik: I'll buy one myself.
They eventually tied Rakhi to each other.
Angad watched them fondly.
Scene 4 – Angad Helps Vrinda
Vrinda was penniless and was worried.
Angad noticed.
Angad: Is something wrong?
Vrinda: Sid's school fees are due, and my salary is gone.
Angad: How much are the fees?
Vrinda: I'll arrange it somehow.
Angad quietly gave her a special allowance.
Vrinda: Angad, I can't take this.
Angad: It's not charity; we are concerned about employees' well-being. Consider it a bonus for your work.
Vrinda understood what he was doing.
Vrinda: Thank you.
Angad: Don't thank me. Take care of Sid.
Scene 5 – The Rain
One afternoon, Vrinda left the office during lunch to pick up Sid.
Heavy rain began.
Angad saw them from his car.
Angad: Vrinda! What are you doing here?
Vrinda: I came to pick up my brother.
Angad looked at Sid.
Angad: Your brother?
Sid: Yes, sir.
Angad: Get inside.
Vrinda: I'll manage.
Angad: I don't think this rain will stop anytime soon.
Vrinda and Sid entered the car.
Angad dropped them off at the church, where they were staying.
He became suspicious.
He knew Vrinda was supposed to live at Tripti's house.
That evening, he gently asked her.
Angad: You were staying at your stepmother's house earlier. How come you are living in the church building?
Vrinda: It's a long story, but to make it short, I would say there was no respect for us in that house, regardless of what I did for them. My stepmother treated me worse than a maid, but I tolerated it. When I gave her my entire salary, she spent it on expensive clothes, makeup kits, and parties, and didn't give me the money for Sid's school fees. That's why we left that place.
Angad: Why didn't you tell me this?
Vrinda: Because you have been helping me all the while, and I didn't want to burden you or gain your sympathy.
Angad: You are not a burden to me, and I'm not giving you sympathy.
He paused.
Angad: If you've read the appointment letter, it says we give these allowances for employees' well-being, including accommodation. So, you and Sid can stay in my house.
Vrinda looked at him emotionally.
Scene 6 – A New Home
Vrinda and Sid moved into Angad's house.
Samaira welcomed them warmly.
Samaira: Finally! I have someone new to boss around.
Sid: And I have someone to annoy.
Samaira: Deal!
Angad laughed.
Sid looked at Angad mischievously.
Sid: Jijaji!
Angad immediately blushed.
Angad: What did you call me?
Sid: Jijaji.
Vrinda became embarrassed.
Vrinda: Sid!
Sid: What? Jijaji jo bolega main wohi karunga!
Everyone laughed.
Angad looked away shyly.
Samaira whispered to Vrinda.
Samaira: Bhabhi, you look very happy.
Vrinda blushed.
Vrinda: Samaira!
The four of them laughed together.
For the first time, the house felt like a real family.
Scene 7 – Song Sequence
The song "Khoye Khoye Din Hain" played. Both Angad and Vrinda unknowingly think about each other and dream.
