"Rhythmic Failure"
The night knew its flaws but still chose to begin anyway. The hustle within the house was real yet not so captivating, not so alluring and not quite comforting.
Within the dark flawless night sat Somya, flawed to every extent, at least that's what she thought. She was gazing over the silhouette that kept on appearing at the nearby wall.
"Maa, why do you always look like you're grieving upon something?" a sweet voice broke her trance.
Her seven-year-old daughter entered her view with thumping footsteps. A floral printed single sleeved frock adorning her munchkin's fair little body. With two ponytails and equally broken front teeth she looked anything but ugly.
She grabbed her mother's cotton saree and started whispering incoherent murmurs as she started fidgeting with the fabric. Somya gathered her little daughter into her embrace and the night in the background started to fade away.
She started getting drawn towards the Odia folk song being played at a distance, somewhere nearby.
"Banshi re.... Prema re to sata sura bandha"
(Oh, flute love has bound all your seven sargams)
"Jeun sure tu bajile subhe Radha Radha"
(Whichever raag may you choose you only sound Radha Radha)
"Subhe Radha Radha"
(Sounds only Radha Radha)
The song brought back memories, flashbacks and what not because she understood those lyrics by heart and memorized them as a holy hymn.
She still felt his presence in her heart even when she no more inhabited Prayagraj. Her current residence was in Odisha tied to a guy who knew nothing but to love her. But nothing could compare to those orbs where her whole existence was reduced to a simple name, Jeet.
Those dark brown orbs where her heart remained and could never rejoice in anyone else's love again.
"Her one and only antique lover:- Jeet"
The song brought her back to that night where it all ended.
Flashback
She was in a different light that night. She had made up her mind that she was going to confess. Confess every little feeling that her heart and mind felt when he was nearby. Confess why he was becoming irresistible day by day. Confess why everything felt better with him just existing somewhere within the reach of her gaze.
Against the hard wall she pressed herself further into it when she noticed his gaze upon her, but something was unusual about the way he looked at her that night as if she didn't belong anymore.
Her breath was heavy from running all the way towards him. She smiled at him baring her upper teeth while her lower lip grazed just beneath them.
She made every way possible that she mustn't make eye contact with him. Unlike other usual days she was not timid that night.
"I love you... I love you Jeet Sir... I know this... This is out of nowhere, but I can't keep it within myself anymore... Since the day you entered my life.... Life became easy in fact quite alluring... Drenched in your honeyed protection, support and companionship... It wasn't late when I realized... I want you in my life forever... Your presence is something I... I can never compromise with and-" Soumya was interrupted in between her confession.
"Leave..." A silent command escaped from his lips as a broken resolution.
It was harsh and final but was not enough for Soumya to understand what he meant originally. She looked at him straight into those hazel brown orbs, something about him was unsettling, something was unbearably wrong, but it wasn't within her grasp to understand what might actually be wrong.
Confusion was arched all over her face, she knew for the fact that Jeet never looked at her like that. Who knew better than her that, he could be the sweetest living creature on earth, and he behaved like that only around her but at that moment he was treating her as he treated the rest of the world.
His emotions which were once the mirror of hers had lost their shine.
Eyes that once softened around her showed nothing but disdain at that moment, as if she meant nothing, as if she was reduced to being nothing.
And that hurt, that hurt like a fire had started between her ribs and the flames were slowly capturing her breath away. She was scared.... Of him. And that was for the first time she got scared of him. But chose to continue anyway because courage like that night was quite a rare case for Soumya.
"I-" she was again interrupted by him and this time not quite gracefully.
"I said leave Soumya. Don't you dare defy me. Leave. Right now." Jeet blared at her and the impact pushed her further into the wall as she flinched away from him.
She left without a word, running away from him and she knew he didn't come after her. Because he didn't care, he was not interested may be. The thought gave her chills, but nothing could compare to the way his eyes had lost their softness for her.
That night her eyes were kept deprived of sleep, tears rolled down from her eyes relentlessly and soaked her pillow. But what she didn't know was that the upcoming days would be harder and barely manageable.
The next day Jeet had disappeared into the thin air. There was not a single sign of his existence nearby, as if he never existed from the very beginning. Questions were asked, words were spread like wildfire, and everybody came to know of her confession. And that marked the beginning of her ruin.
Words were sent and her marriage was fixed within days to a software engineer with a stable financial condition. He was from a place farther away from her hometown and would have no idea about the rumors going on around Prayagraj.
Hence, she was tied to an unknown man without her consent and there was no one to protect her because her savior, her Jeet, had chosen to cause her misery. But nothing could make her resent him because deep down a thought lingered Was he okay? And nobody answered her, nobody assured her that maybe he was fine. While drowning into the hand of fate she prayed for nothing but his wellbeing.
Days passed and nothing felt good anymore, an unsettling silence enveloped her and caught tight on her throat. She rarely spoke, rarely answered anyone as if life was sucked straight out of her lungs and she didn't know how to breathe without hurting anymore.
Then came the biggest blow to her tragedy-stricken life, an anonymous letter arrived on her name, and she knew who sent it the second she read that handwriting.
She was addressed as "Junior" as usually she would have been by him. He had written that he was fine, living somewhere far away from her kept him fine while she was deprived of air to breathe. He had written that he didn't mean to hurt her while she was bleeding her heart out from his actions. He had written she should move on because he didn't have strength to fight anymore, once he fought for his identity and then he would have to fight for her love. She thought what was tougher about the later, then she realized maybe she was not worth it. He had asked her to send a reply, only if he knew she would never send one not even if she was in her death bed.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she burnt the letter in the flame of her anguish, but nothing made her hate him, he was far too precious to her to be resented by her.
Love unsettled her when despite the pain, she felt relief that he was fine, God knew what was wrong with her as she chuckled lightly through her tears.
Flashback Ends.
Her daughter's lolling head brought her back to reality. The deeply asleep little soul knew neither about her mother's trailing thoughts nor her heavily weighted heart.
The music continued in the background as Soumya kept reminiscing the past while counter measuring a series of occasional what ifs.
(Baunsa khandie tu emiti pirati kahun sikhilu)
(you're just a piece of bamboo, where did you learn to love like this?)
(Barajanagare kula ra naari ku kulata kalu)
(You reduced a dignified woman in Brijnagar into nothing but a characterless lady.)

Hello readers
Actually, I'm new to this forum
But not to the show. I have been watching it since the first episode aired on tv and have been whipped to another extent.
I'm someone who's a pro at sad endings, because I rarely write anything that has had a happy ending, but I'll try to write some, only if you guys would like to read it.
I'll be active in the forum from now on and wanted to introduce myself with some of my skills (writing is one of them).
I'll tune in soon with another piece of mine until then happy reading.
And do let me know whether you liked this one or not, criticisms are mostly welcomed.
Bye Bye
