Pooja is the issue IMO, you don't wear those clothes while doing aarti during festivals. In the gurudwara for example you are not allowed inside in those clothes Kriti wore.

Wearing red is not the only way to take attention away from the bride.

Your extended family wear halter cholis that show that much cleavage to other people's weddings ? Interesting. Shaadi ke mandap mein puja hoti hai ,havan hota hai ,pandit baithe honge ,wahan pe boobs are fine but somebody has to be full clothed in the privacy of their home because there's an associated ritual along with rakhi Bandhan ? Please explain why Kriti's clothes are inappropriate but PC's are not. Brother? Yup. Puja? Yup. Where's the difference ?

It's sad that even after so much chaos over that ad, almost everyone is missing the point. Or may be it's just online activism where one has to have an opinion while in real life everyone will be doing, wearing what they want - following "tradition".

Some people are suddenly loathing dress code because "my body my choice" when in any other day, they'd side eye anyone wearing the same during Pooja or other religious activity. Why? Because it's simply not appropriate. Problem is not what you are wearing. Problem is that whatever you are wearing if it fits the occasion. Not everything is an attack on someone unless they make it look like it. But anyway! These days this is what keep the internet going. 🙂

Who decides what is appropriate and what is not though? I might find an outfit apt for the occasion...you might disagree.

Everyone is missing the point because this is not a choice vs tradition thing . Of course you have to dress modestly for religious events and while what's modest and what's not is also a matter of debate like Pasta said , not everyone celebrates Rakshabandhan as a religious festival. It's like Diwali or Christmas ; many people including religious folk see it as an occassion to get together have fun and exchange gifts, not everyone is big on the religious significance of it. What rakhi undeniably is ,is a brother sister thing. I can't imagine any sister thinking " Oh hey, today I'm gonna have a special moment with my brother . So let me just get a push up bra and wear this weird excuse for a top so that I can shove acres of my shiny plump breasts right in his face as I lean over him". That's the problem with the ad. It sexualises the sister. So even if you take religion and rituals out of the picture ,it's still inappropriate.

Instead of addressing that everyones talking about religion , sanskaar, modesty , women's autonomy , freedom and all kinds of shit. Reverse the roles, imagine the brother in extra tight yoga pants that show outline. Nobody would say " This is inappropriate for a religious occassion, you can manspread for your sister later when there are no diyas and agarbattis ".

I doubt she'd chime in since her husband jumped ship and has joined the BJP. He probably would go with " Why is our religion being targeted ?" but she wouldn't want to echo that just in case there's a comeback film a few years later. But I'm sure she's rolling her eyes at Madhu 😆😆
