Chapter 2 – The Reunion That Changed Everything
The silence inside the boardroom stretched endlessly.
Neither Maan nor Geet blinked.
Five years had passed.
Five years of unanswered questions.
Five years of pain.
Five years of pretending to move on.
And yet...
One look was enough to bring every memory rushing back.
The directors sitting around the conference table exchangedconfused glances.
No one understood why their usually composed CEO hadsuddenly gone pale.
Maan slowly rose from his chair.
His eyes never left hers.
His voice was barely a whisper.
"...Geet?"
Geet's fingers tightened around the file she was holding.
Her heart screamed to run toward him.
To tell him everything.
To explain why she had disappeared.
But she couldn't.
Not yet.
She straightened her shoulders and forced herself to remaincalm.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Khurana."
Her voice was professional.
"My name is Gauri Sharma."
The words hit Maan like a slap.
He stared at her in disbelief.
"No..."
His jaw clenched.
"Don't do this."
"I believe you're mistaken."
The board members looked from one to the other, completelybewildered.
One of the directors cleared his throat.
"Sir... is everything alright?"
Maan finally tore his gaze away from Geet.
For a brief second, the ruthless businessman returned.
"Everyone leave."
The room fell silent.
"Sir?"
"I said..."
His voice became colder.
"Leave."
Within seconds, every director gathered their files andhurried out.
Adi, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, looked atGeet carefully.
His eyes widened.
He almost dropped his notebook.
"Geet...?"
She looked away.
"I think you've mistaken me for someone else."
Adi's throat tightened.
He looked at Maan.
Then back at Geet.
Without another word, he quietly left the room, closing thedoor behind him.
Now...
Only Maan and Geet remained.
The room suddenly felt much smaller.
Maan walked around the conference table.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
Stopping only a few feet away from her.
"You expect me to believe this?"
Geet remained silent.
"You disappeared."
Silence.
"You left without a word."
Silence.
"You broke every promise."
Still silence.
"And now..."
He laughed bitterly.
"You return with a new name?"
Geet finally looked at him.
"I came here for work."
"For work?"
His voice echoed across the room.
"You disappeared for five years."
"You let everyone believe you were guilty."
"You let me believe you never cared."
She swallowed hard.
Every accusation pierced her heart.
"I never wanted—"
"You never wanted what?"
His eyes burned with hurt.
"To say goodbye?"
"You already did that."
He pulled a folded piece of paper from his wallet.
It looked old.
Worn.
The edges had faded with time.
Geet recognized it instantly.
The letter.
The one she had written with trembling hands.
The one that had destroyed both their lives.
Maan unfolded it carefully.
"I've carried this for five years."
His voice cracked despite himself.
"Five years."
He looked at her.
"I read it every single day."
Geet's eyes filled with tears.
"Maan..."
"Don't."
His face hardened.
"You lost the right to say my name."
A painful silence settled between them.
Outside the glass walls, employees continued working, unaware that two broken hearts were standing only a few feet apart.
Finally, Geet spoke.
"I'm sorry."
Maan laughed again.
"So that's it?"
"I'm sorry?"
"You disappear."
"You destroy everything."
"You come back pretending to be someone else."
"And you think two words are enough?"
"No."
Her voice trembled.
"I know they aren't."
"Then tell me why."
She closed her eyes.
She wanted to.
More than anything.
But remembering that night sent fear through her entirebody.
A dark room.
A masked man.
A threat.
A gun placed on the table.
A voice whispering—
"Leave Delhi... or Maan dies."
Her breathing became uneven.
She couldn't tell him.
Not yet.
"I'm not allowed."
Maan frowned.
"What?"
"I can't explain."
His patience snapped.
"You can't..."
He stepped closer.
"Or you won't?"
She remained silent.
That silence answered everything.
His expression changed.
The pain disappeared behind an icy wall.
"I understand now."
He walked back toward the table.
"You really did choose to leave."
"No!"
The word escaped before she could stop herself.
He turned.
For the first time since entering the room, she lostcontrol.
"I never chose to stop loving you."
The confession hung in the air.
Both of them froze.
Geet immediately regretted her words.
She quickly looked away.
"I..."
Maan stared at her.
His heartbeat quickened.
For one impossible moment...
Hope returned.
Then she spoke again.
"I mean..."
She forced herself back into her professional tone.
"I'm here only as the project's architect."
Maan's face became unreadable once more.
He picked up the project file.
"As CEO of Khurana Constructions..."
His voice was calm.
"...I don't let personal matters interfere withbusiness."
He signed the final page.
"Congratulations."
He slid the file toward her.
"You've officially been appointed as Chief Architectfor Khurana Heritage City."
Geet accepted the file silently.
"Thank you."
"Our relationship begins and ends inside thisoffice."
She nodded.
"I understand."
"You'll report directly to me."
"Fine."
"There will be no special treatment."
"I never asked for any."
He opened the boardroom door.
"The meeting is over."
She walked toward the exit.
Just before stepping outside, she paused.
Without turning around, she whispered,
"I truly am sorry."
Then she left.
The door closed quietly behind her.
Maan stood motionless.
The room suddenly felt unbearably empty.
He looked down at the letter still lying in his hand.
His grip tightened until the paper crumpled.
"Why..."
he whispered to himself.
"Why did you come back now?"
Outside the boardroom...
Geet leaned against the corridor wall.
Her hands were shaking.
She had imagined this meeting a thousand times.
None of those imagined conversations had hurt this much.
She wiped away a tear before anyone could see it.
Just then, Adi approached slowly.
He stopped a few feet away.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke.
Finally, he smiled sadly.
"I knew."
Geet looked at him.
"I knew no one else could have those stubborneyes."
A faint smile appeared despite her tears.
"Hello, Adi."
He laughed softly.
"Five years..."
"You've changed."
"So have you."
He shook his head.
"No."
"You still cry when you're trying to act brave."
Her eyes widened.
"You remembered?"
"I remember everything."
For a brief moment, the years disappeared.
They were simply old friends again.
Adi's smile faded.
"He never stopped waiting."
Geet lowered her eyes.
"I know."
"And every birthday..."
He hesitated.
"He still buys a gift."
A tear rolled down Geet's cheek.
"He keeps them?"
"Every single one."
She covered her mouth to stop herself from crying.
Before she could reply, Maan's secretary appeared.
"Ms. Sharma."
She quickly composed herself.
"Yes?"
"Mr. Khurana has asked you to join the project siteinspection tomorrow morning at eight."
Geet nodded.
"I'll be there."
As the secretary walked away, Adi sighed.
"You know..."
"Maan says he hates you."
Geet closed her eyes.
"But?"
Adi smiled gently.
"I've known him for years."
"Hate doesn't make someone keep an old letter in hiswallet."
Geet looked toward the closed boardroom door.
Somewhere behind it...
Maan stood alone with a broken heart.
And somewhere deep inside her...
The hope she had buried five years ago stirred once again.
Neither of them realized that from the opposite end of thecorridor...
A woman wearing dark sunglasses watched everything.
She quietly took out her phone and made a call.
"They've met."
A cold voice answered from the other end.
"Good."
"Keep watching them."
"If either of them starts remembering thetruth..."
The caller paused.
"Finish what we started five years ago."
The call disconnected.
The woman smiled faintly before disappearing into the crowd.
