I think it's still a bit early to reach a conclusion either way. Stardom isn't judged only by the opening weekend or a single film. It's usually a combination of consistent box office performance, audience pull, and long-term credibility. Let's see where *Alpha* finishes its run before declaring it a hit or a flop.

no budget is significantly lower..50, 60cr less

Before release it was given alpha budget is 150 crore,after releasing it’s reducing that’s different thing

Alpha budget is 80 cr

Now even Nishwat S on X who gave a negative review and was harsh ,one seeing wknd collection , said let’s see where this goes as budget is low

And trust me when I say this , if you see the movie you would even believe budget is low

If War 2 is made on 400 cr budget, Alpha budget couldn't be any less than 150 cr ( going solely by the making, looks and feel etc. ) .

Or we have to believe lesser number for both. War 2 - 300 cr. Alpha - 100 cr.

The reason they've lessened the budget post release is simple. They saw the movie is going to flop , there's no way to save it. So the only thing they can try to save here is save face . Save reputation of the franchise and Alia. So the budget is suddenly touted as half of what it was initially claimed so that they can show a decent ROI and project the movie not as a financial failure as that would tarnish the future of both the actors and franchise.

Cocktail 2 earned more during it's 3 day 1st weekend with more hall occupancy. Yet it turned out to be a flop . Watch how they spin Alpha to be a hit.
