What they said:

"I think, first and foremost, we're probably quite proud [of] how we have held ourselves and how we're really giving a good competition to these big teams. Probably a bit of disappointment that we've maybe not finished the games as well as we would have liked." - Scotland's Darcey Carter

"Last 18 months I didn't score a 100. A lot of blames, a lot of bad comments came to me, but I love those comments because otherwise I won't improve. Sometimes healthy criticism is really good for a cricketer. That's why I played a good game today and I showed my jersey and my name because I said to the others, I'm still alive." - Chamari Athapaththu on her century celebration in the last game against Ireland.

West Indies Women vs Ireland Women, 27th Match, Group B, ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026

Image

One crucial push stands between the West Indies and a place in the semifinals. Having put together an impressive campaign to date, Hayley Matthews' side arrive Bristol for their last Group B fixture knowing that victory over Ireland would seal back-to-back appearances in the final four of the Women's T20 World Cup. They announced themselves with a statement win over defending champions New Zealand, built on it with victories over Scotland and Sri Lanka, before England halted their momentum at Lord's three nights ago. A defeat here would not end their hopes, but it would leave their fate resting on the outcome of the England-New Zealand clash.

For Ireland, the tournament has unfolded far differently. Four successive defeats have brought an early end to their semifinal ambitions, but there remains the chance to bow out on a high. They will also draw confidence from the fact that they edged the West Indies by one run (DLS) in a tri-series clash in Dublin earlier this month.

That victory was orchestrated by the all-round brilliance of Orla Prendergast, who has been impressive with both bat and ball in this tournament. But overturning the West Indies once again will require another special effort. Aaliyah Alleyne and Matthews have been instrumental in their side's charge towards the knockout stages with eight wickets apiece but as the defeat at Lord's showed, the West Indies haven't been at their absolute best with the bat and are prone to mistakes in the field in a pressure game.

When: West Indies vs Ireland, Group B, Match 27, June 27, 2026, 2:30 PM (Local) / 7:00 PM IST

Where: Bristol County Ground

What to expect: The teams will face mostly pleasant to balmy conditions with late afternoon temperatures set to touch 28 degrees Celsius. Both West Indies and Ireland have played Sri Lanka here, with West Indies enjoying a fairly dominant win while Ireland fell to a Chamari Athapaththu hundred. Although three of the four games here so far have been won by the chasing side, teams will exercise some caution before fielding first given it'll be the second match of the day at the venue.

Team News:

West Indies will not want to tinker with their XI for a match of this significance although there remains some cloud over Stafanie Taylor's participation after she went off the field at Lord's complaining of tightness in the chest.

Probable XI: Hayley Matthews (c), Deandra Dottin, Shemaine Campbelle (wk), Stafanie Taylor, Jahzara Claxton, Chinelle Henry, Jannillea Glasgow, Ashmini Munisar, Aaliyah Alleyne, Afy Fletcher, Karishma Ramharack

Ireland have progressed well through the campaign even if a win has eluded them. Given that they've played the most recent game in Bristol, Gaby Lewis could be expected to give her players another go and hope their know-how of the conditions will aid their pursuit.

Probable XI: Amy Hunter (wk), Gaby Lewis (c), Orla Prendergast, Rebecca Stokell, Louise Little, Leah Paul, Alice Tector, Arlene Kelly, Aimee Maguire, Cara Murray, Lara McBride

Did you know?

  1. Barring Shemaine Campbelle (150), no player has aggregated 100 runs in this competition for West Indies
  2. Orla Prendergast needs nine runs to reach 2000 T20I runs. Only Gaby Lewis (3176) has got to that mark previously for Ireland

What they said:

"I need to get some runs. Deandra probably feels like she hasn't been at her best either. And yet, we're still winning games, we're still competing. I think it's a really good sign because I think at one time, we would probably...have struggled to win a lot of these games without myself or Deandra performing really well. But we're still in the position we are [and it] shows that we've got a lot more people that we're relying on now." - Hayley Matthews

"We came across here looking to win at least two matches, if not more. We really felt that we were in a good position to do that, and unfortunately just a few things haven't gone our way, and we probably haven't performed as well as we'd like to. So yeah, that's very disappointing. But I think, to be honest, tomorrow is a bit of a free shot. I think, yeah, we're raring to go and can't wait to try and get that first win under our belt." - Ireland's Amy Hunter
