18:15 Local Time, 12:45 GMT: Two teams that have played some exceptional cricket over the past two months are set to clash in the first Qualifier of the season at the picturesque Dharamsala stadium today. A very warm welcome to everyone tuning in. I’m Nikhil, and alongside my colleagues, I’ll be taking you through the live coverage of Qualifier 1 over the next few hours.

RCB have been searching for a settled opening combination ever since Phil Salt got injured. Bethell was given a few opportunities at the top, but the left-hander failed to make a significant impact before being ruled out of the playoffs with a finger injury. Venkatesh Iyer, meanwhile, impressed with a solid 44 while opening in the previous match, and had earlier smashed a crucial 73 against Punjab Kings at this venue while batting at number four. With Salt now back in the squad, Iyer could shift back to the middle order if Salt returns to the playing XI. We should have clarity on the RCB team combination shortly.

Both teams possess bowling attacks that are in terrific form. Gujarat Titans have a formidable lineup featuring Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna. On the other hand, RCB too have quality bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam, and Krunal Pandya, whose variations have been tough for batters to pick. His bouncer, especially, has been one of the hardest deliveries to deal with. Overall, both sides head into the clash with their bowling units performing at a very high level.

At a time when most batters rely on brute power and relentless slogging, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan are showing how effective traditional strokeplay and low-risk cricket can still be. They rarely look reckless, yet they pile on runs so effortlessly that opponents often fail to realise how much damage has already been done in the powerplay. With elegance, precision and smart shot selection, the pair quietly takes control of the game and drags it away from the opposition.

The defending champions have showcased an inspiring brand of cricket under the leadership of Rajat Patidar and truly deserve their place at the top of the points table. Gujarat Titans, though, are not far behind, with Shubman Gill leading from the front brilliantly. Along with his sharp captaincy, Gill has been outstanding with the bat and remains firmly in the race for the Orange Cap. Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler have made equally significant contributions, continuing the consistency they displayed last season.
