The writers never showed us Anuj getting engaged to Shruthi and promising marriage to her after Anupama walked out of their marriage following the car accident. The entire sequence was conveniently skipped because showing it would have exposed the truth — that Anuj and Aadhya had every reason to move on after being abandoned. The Dimpy-Titu wedding track happened much later, making Anupama’s sudden re-entry into Anuj’s life even more forced and ridiculous. Frankly, Dimpy and Titu should never have married either, as Titu agreed to become a “ghar jamai” and surrendered his self-respect without a second thought.
a. Anupama, as Anuj’s ex-wife, attending Anuj and Shruthi’s sangeet ceremony in the US was completely shameless and made no sense. Any woman with even basic self-respect would never insert herself into her ex-husband’s pre-wedding celebration with another woman. Yes, the food order had to be delivered, but Anupama could easily have delegated that task to the staff of Spice & Chutney instead of personally turning up there. It was equally laughable that Anuj, supposedly a wealthy business tycoon, could not afford a lehenga for his adopted daughter Aadhya or even hire a decent tailor in the US to repair it. As always, Anupama’s presence brought disruption and turned what should have been a happy occasion into unnecessary chaos.
b. Anupama trying to force her non-existent rights as a mother by decorating for Aadhya’s birthday was nothing but emotional intrusion. Aadhya tearing down those decorations was fully justified because Anupama had no right to force herself into that space after walking out of their lives. Shruthi, who had cared for and nurtured Aadhya, was deliberately made to look incapable of ordering a proper cake only so the writers could once again glorify Anupama by making her bake one. If Aadhya had known Anupama baked that cake, she would have every right to throw it straight into the dustbin. Her wish that Anupama’s “special day” be ruined was completely fulfilled when the food critic discovered cockroaches in Anupama’s so-called signature dish, “Undhiyo Biryani.” Shruthi absolutely did the right thing by shutting down Spice & Chutney. Any responsible person would shut down a place serving cockroach-infested food instead of defending it.
c. Anuj overhearing Anupama’s conversation with Yashdeep and immediately breaking his engagement with Shruthi only exposed him as weak, confused, and completely disloyal. Shruthi gave stability to both Anuj and Aadhya after Anupama abandoned them, yet he threw her aside the moment his old obsession resurfaced. That was not love — it was sheer emotional weakness.
Dimpy was equally responsible, along with Anupama, for Anuj and Shruthi’s wedding not happening. If Dimpy truly wanted freedom, she should have filed a case against Vanraj for forcing her toward Pratik instead of creating more chaos through her own impulsive choices. Had Anuj and Shruthi married, Aadhya would finally have received the stable mother figure she actually deserved.
Dimpy, instead of marrying Titu, could have left the Shah house, raised Ansh as a single parent, and restarted the dance academy. The income from that could easily have funded Ansh’s education and given her genuine independence.
The “Undhiyo Cockroach Biryani” disaster was one of the clearest examples of the writers insulting the audience’s intelligence. They shamelessly twisted the entire situation to paint Anupama as the victim while unfairly demonizing Shruthi, even though Shruthi was the only one acting with logic, accountability, and common sense.
