hey i'm back, i was MIA because of eid and new job making me too tired to do anything after getting home. weekends are also packed with grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and sometimes going out lol

anyway i'm off today due to easter monday so back to the 50 discussion. It's based on an international show with the same name. 50 contestants living in the same castle/mansion for approximately 25 days and there were a total of 50 episodes.

the mansion has 5 main parts:

a) main castle with living area with bedrooms, bathrooms, living room etc where the players spend most of their day.

b) front yard where they play "lion crazy games" to win money for their fans. One fan at the final episode won 50 lakh for supporting shiv because they bet on shiv early on. i still think this part was a scam

c) arena where they where they play arena games they have to play games in teams (size of team varies in every task). whichever team loses the tasks, either the whole team or the players chosen by the captain go to danger zone (which is a separate part of the mansion).

d) danger zone where nominated players wait during the voting period. The voting happens by the safe players who were sent back to the main castle. everyone votes to save someone from the nomination with a phone provided by the makers. at the end lion comes out and announces who got the least vote and is given an exit order. this is where most of the politics happens because the safe players plan and plot whom to keep and whom to kick out. this discussion amongst the safe players is also shown to the danger zone players to create more drama

e) lion's den where every day a few contestants are chosen by the lion come to and play a game of "dare". if they complete the dare, they win money for fans. it's usually low stakes. only during the last week, 3 players were dared to directly eliminate 6 players as a dare. this was mainly done because there were too many players left in the last few days (over 20).

how it differ from BB: there are no audience vote, only the players and tasks decide who wins and who loses. although sometimes the makers saved and brought people back for no reason there are no daily household tasks like cooking or cleaning, which caused the most fights in big boss. players are provided with food and every other amenities so they can only focus on the games. finally, there is no actual host like salman khan, the lion is just a symbol.

yeah the show got over and shiv being the winner was already known because the episodes were shot well in advance anyway, i'll talk about my thoughts about the winner another time. for now, see my introductory post about the show

*Me hiding behind a pillow in embarrassment*, so sorry for replying so late, Sumi. I had decided to take out enough time to reply to your messages at leisure and somehow that leisure never worked out. But yeh, wont justify it. Pls maaf kar do

Wow, this show sounds non-toxic. No fights over team captains, food etc and no 'big boss' trying to instigate fights

I like the concept of fans winning money. At least here they get something back for supporting the contestants. BB too should start paying fans, at least the ones who vote most often.

I am guessing safe players are decided based on game arena along with the ones to go to danger zone? This part is fair. But I don't like how voting was done, the ones in safe zone or castle would obviously try to eliminate the strong player. how is it fair game then?

At first I had thought this was BB-lite :P but yeah, much different than BB. It created buzz as well so season 2 should work well too.

Hopefully the weather has cleared up on your side and it’s nice and sunny now. Over here, it already feels like summer arrived early. I hope you’ve been able to get some proper rest too, work can really take a lot out of you.

I have been spending my weekends doing work this month, as I have taken up 2 additional projects and I’m also training some of the younger folks on my team alongside my main responsibilities, so it’s been quite full-on.

hahahha no worries at all. there's no rush in replying (i'm already replying after almost 2 weeks). As adults with real adult responsibilities, life is so busy so finding time to watch these shows AND discuss is a pipe dream. But thank you again for taking the time and chatting here with me

@the50: yeah i like the show better than BB, especially after how biased BB has gotten over the last few seasons and BB has almost eliminated all tasks. I hope the50 comes back with season 2 but idk how they'll get 50 newer people to participate

i agree, the safe players have too much power but it was also interesting to see how the votes were often manipulated by some of the smart safe players. they often tricked people to vote out their enemies and only the audience knew who tricked who. they always did those video interviews of the contestants where they revealed their plan only to the audience and the makers never interfered and revealed these secrets to the other players!

unfortunately our weather is still crappy, spring has decided to postpone it's arrival it's been close to freezing even in may.

oh man, so sorry to hear that your weekends have been so busy. taking on additional responsibilities is great for your career but do try to take some time for yourself as well

btw i dont' remember if i told you this already: i finished my phd and started a new job as a scientist at the same place where i did my phd.

@Safe players- Ah, so they used to mind games. Nice. And it reminded me of the show 'The office', where the characters would talk to audience about their thoughts, in between the episode. I like that idea actually.

Bold- Er, what? You still have freezing conditions there? Did summer forget to arrive or what? We had a mix of rain and sun last month but now it's all sunny, in fact feeling the heat with temperatures going to 70s F already.

Yes, you told me about the job but didn't know it was at the same place where you did your phd. That's so cool, Sumi! I'm so proud of ya, Doctor Sumaiyya ji!
