Aamir also collaborated with the screenplay (a story that seems to be heavily inspired by the 1958 US movie Housboat, btw).

Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se is a nice song but it's only Juhi dancing and Aamir walking/watching/a bit romancing her (so latter not much to do).

I think that Aamir from early on had a knack for directing with already having worked as assistant director. Some of his directors also talked about Aamir directing in their movies.

As for the topic about 3 Idiots... I wonder who exactly came up with the idea as already the first movie had a 10-years-later plot part.

I know already that I won't watch the movie because 3 Idiots was a movie where the way Aamir got pushed into the foreground (in a way the book that very loosely served as inspiration didn't with the group of students) made me uncomfortable to watch him. Maybe because I already knew the book, I really found the movie superficial (especially because not wanting to be pure entertainment but taking itself so serious to try to convey equally superficial 'messages').

Also most of the song direction s done by the choreographer i think. I read one interview where they decide the camera angles also.

Aamir should try directing a film himself or maybe ask Kiran to direct one w him in lead. I think that would get buzz

Until now, I only saw one staractor direct a whole sequence of a movie: SRK directed the football match sequence with the boys in KANK. Here, in this part of the Making of footage, one can see a part of it (starting from 2.06):

Actually, it had been 2 sequences, the one is the first play in the movie, the other is among the deleted scenes (unfortunately because it is an important scene relative to the characters).
