Stats and trivia

  • Kohli is one away from hitting 300 IPL sixes. Only Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma have hit more.
  • The strike rate of 175 for RCB's middle order is significantly higher than GT's 135. While RCB have hit the most sixes by a middle order (34), GT have hit the least (eight).
  • With 1928 runs in 46 innings, B Sai Sudharsan could become the fastest to 2000 IPL runs. Gayle touched this landmark in 48 innings.
  • Rabada's seven wickets are the joint-highest (along with Jofra Archer) in the powerplay this season.

When: RCB vs GT, IPL 2026, April 24 at 19:30 IST

Where: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

What to expect: Pitch No. 6 - the one used for the CSK and LSG games - will be in play for this. Midday temperatures in Bengaluru have continued to rise, affecting pitch preparation. After four innings of 200+ scores, we've seen first-innings totals plummet to 146 and 175 in the last two games. Teams will, as a matter of principle, want to chase on this ground.

Head to Head: RCB 3-3 GT. The Titans have also won 2 of the three fixtures played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, including last season's encounter. All six games in this fixture have been won by the chasing side.

Quotes

"In my old career [as part of England's coaching setup], I'd have probably wanted him playing county cricket but that's a different point. I think Jacob himself has talked about how much he's got out of being at the IPL. When he had that innings against India in the T20 semi-final, he pretty much referenced the fact that having experienced some of the things he experienced here at the IPL, batting with people like Virat and playing in packed stadiums, meant that he was able to deal with whatever that situation threw at him. Everything he's experiencing out here in the IPL is going to help him as an England cricketer, that's for sure."

RCB director of cricket Mo Bobat on Bethell sitting on the bench

"We trust in a method, in a formula, we trust in the players that we have in delivering that method and that formula. That, by the way, is no slight on the way the other people play as well, you know. The other teams are well within their right to play as they do."

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Injuries/Availability: No new injuries to report apart from the continued unavailability of Nuwan Thushara.

Tactics & Matchups: Bhuvneshwar Kumar has excellent T20 records against Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. He has dismissed Buttler seven times and Gill four times and hasn't conceded at above 110 SR to either of them. The GT top-three come into this game having all been dismissed in the Powerplay for the first time, in the last game against Mumbai Indians.

Probable XII: Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (c), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, Rasikh Salam Dar

Gujarat Titans

Injuries/Availability: No new injuries to report.

Tactics & Matchups:

Jason Holder, with his height and instinctive back-of-a-length game, could be especially useful at a venue that can offer spongy bounce to hit-the-deck seamers. With Kagiso Rabada finding rhythm, Holder's inclusion may trigger a small reshuffle in Gujarat's XI. Glenn Phillips is one possible casualty, while there is also a case for swapping Shahrukh Khan for an additional top-order batter such as Kumar Kushagra to fill the Phillips gap. That would free Titans to balance the attack differently too - perhaps with a left-arm spinner in R Sai Kishore or Manav Suthar against a right-dominated RCB instead of Ashok Sharma.

Probable XII: Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Kumar Kushagra, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, R. Sai Kishore/Manav Suthar

If RCB can remove Gill, Sudharson and Butler, it'll be easy for them to course through.
