5 years??? Aisa mat bolo bhai the film is expected to go on floors next year and may release by 2028
But it will be a crazy casting coup if Dhar gets Akshaye as Chanakya and Ranveer as Chandragupta....the audience will go bonkers for this trio!!!

I understand that it sounds crazy but it’s quite realistic. I think Dhar has cracked a new code in Indian cinema - release sequels in short succession. He took 3 months between the two Dhurandhars and I am pretty sure all the relevant people have noticed how the excellent business done by the first movie with the absolute surety that the next one is just 3 months away helped the sequel too.
I am pretty sure that the next time this duo comes together - which might be this historical - the stakes will be higher. Ranveer has already proven that he’s the undisputed king when it comes to historical dramas as it is regardless of what shade he plays as an actor onscreen - Bajirao or Khilji. He was par excellence as both. Dhar with his eye for peak detailing and now an established mastery over political dramas will be a dream team for this subject. Bhansali might actually get palpitations
and Jio, the likely studio to back up the project financially will ask Dhar to take his time to shoot the whole trilogy, as it’s being expected, all at once and then proceed to edit the movies in order of release. They might not go for 3 months again but I am pretty sure they’ll keep the releases within 6 months of each other.
Given the sheer scale of the projects, the amount of shooting required itself will be absolutely insane. Not to mention, the VFX and CGI wherever necessary and whatever Dhar deems as an absolute necessity when it comes to original sets that need to be erected wherever - even if it’s Thailand again and this time on a much bigger scale. This will take time.
Mukesh Chhabra has also revealed he took nearly 1.5-2 years in casting for both the movies combined. Now, this was because they needed people who matched real life characters whose references were easily available and accessible to anyone. Yet, it would take time to cast the characters for a trilogy too no doubt even with no real people they need to find matches for.
I would absolutely love to see Akshay play Chanakya too, if that happens I know a lot of people are batting for Dutt to be roped in as Nanda but it would be absolutely crazy if Maddy plays Nanda. He’s played an evil guy in Shaitaan but this will be different and kinda hilarious given how Rehman was ultimately killed by Hamza planted by Sanyal. Nanda was killed by Chandragupta trained and taught by Chanakya
It’s with all these factors that I am assuming 5 years as the timeline. Both Dhurandhar movies were shot within 18 months from what I gather though preproduction and post production work combined made it a 3 year long thing. Mauryan era movies will certainly need a bit more. I am anticipating 2029/30 tbh if they manage to go on floors next year as far as the release of the first movie is concerned if the Mauryan era trilogy is the one they’re going with. If they go for something else like the sports drama that was also speculated on in an article, this might change to a bit sooner as I don’t think a sports based movie will likely have any sequel much less be a trilogy.

I doubt it will take 5 years fr the first film to be out though but yeah definitely 5-6 years for the trilogy to complete as they may release one part every year.

Yep, I am talking about the trilogy taking a minimum of 5 years especially if they go for the same formula as Dhurandhar - release all the movies in short succession of each other as it keeps the momentum and buzz going. The audiences certainly don’t mind paying for a sequel if it’s highly anticipated and is delivered in quick succession where quality is not compromised.
The fact that Dhar technically has all the information he needs already is a bonus. I am sure he and his team will be reading books on Mauryan empire and any verified history records from around the world if this is the subject. They will need to work on the screenplay, dialogues and Dhar is certainly going to retain his core technical team. So they might be in the scripting phase already.
Ranveer probably has to simply brush up on his skills when it comes to fencing, swordplay, horse riding and archery if he’s to be Chandragupt. Not sure what else he would need but if there’s anything else he’s bound to undergo training.
We know that an official announcement might be made in November… NGl absolutely hyped for this. I am very confident that these two will redefine historical drama with this trilogy if the buzz is right. I am most curious about how Sachdev will make music for a period drama because we know it would require a very different handling than Dhurandhar but given this team the anticipation for his music will be sky high.
Personally, I would prefer the historical project over a sports drama...

Same, especially since Chandragupta Mauryan era is yet unexplored and so rich when it comes to Indian history. Plus Ranveer being in the movie already makes it an exciting prospect regardless of whether he plays Chandragupta or Chanakya or even Dhanananda tbh, given his excellent track record when it comes to historical dramas and the guaranteed exceptional performance we can expect from him. He’s played Bajirao and Khilji, two extremes in all the ways that matter with such finesse that it’s mind boggling that the same guy has played both one of the most celebrated and successful military generals of India and one of the most evil and dangerous men who attacked India.
Dhar hasn’t done a historical but we know that the subject in question requires a fine understanding of the nuances and craft of politics as well as espionage, especially since this is gonna involve Chanakya, the most celebrated and respected strategist in Indian history. Dhar already proved he is more than capable of handling these subjects with Dhurandhar and honestly it will be very interesting to see him tackle the same subjects more or less but set nearly 2000 years back with no modern technology or any other means to get by but with politics and espionage more or less being the same and interlinked with not just domestic issues but also geopolitical.

Aapke muh mein ghee aur shakkar
Absolutely hyped up for this project!!!!!
BTW, if Maddy plays Chanakya and Ranveer Chandragupta, they would be rebooting the Ajit-Jaskirat equation yet again...;)
It's an extremely exciting period of Indian history as it followed Alexander the Great period...one of the most interesting (to me) episodes that combines European and Indian history, something that never stopped to resurface (the combining).

Thank you ☺️
The thing is that these 3 men - Ranveer, Akshay and Maddy are all so talented that any permutation combination can work so well here. Akshay can play both Chanakya and Dhanananda, as can Maddy. We know for a fact that even Ranveer is capable of it and we know all of them can kill it. The fact that Dhar casts for the character and not the star is why this gets more exciting because man is so sure if his scripts that he knows he doesn’t need to depend on star power alone to make his movies work. I mean look at Uri, Dhurandhar. Vicky was very new and this was a small movie in terms of budget but it worked wonders for his career. Similarly, Ranveer was going through a bad phase and Dhar banked on him playing his most subtle and restrained character despite his real persona and its practically created history no matter what people say when it comes to movies in India.
I think one of the most interesting casting decisions for the role of Chanakya can be an actor who hasn’t worked with Dhar yet but is absolutely capable of pulling off the role - Ashutosh Rana. Can absolutely imagine him as Chanakya who is supposed to be tall, well built but also insulted as being sorta… well not good looking by Dhanananda. A proud man who has a fire within him to destroy a king who was a disgrace to his throne.
My choice for Dhanananda would be Jimmy Shergill. Jimmy is IMO a very fine actor who hasn’t gotten his due as much and he would be a very unconventional choice for such a role but kill it with absolute ease. I think an interesting flip would be to make Akshay play Amatya Rakshasa who was a minister who flipped sides as he saw Dhanananda was ultimately going to cause the downfall of his empire and worse ruin his kingdom and the people within it. Essentially he’s a traitor who thinks that the kingdom is bigger than the king himself. He’s a war general and a brilliant strategist in his own right whom Chanakya manages to persuade.
Maddy can be Bhadrabahu, the Jain monk who ultimately becomes the spiritual Guru of Chandragupta whom he follows as he renounces his throne and follows him as he embraces the life of a monk. Bhadrabahu is believed to have been a man from the Southern part of India if memory serves me right.
Yami can play either Durdhara, Chandragupta’s first wife who is considered his childhood best friend and sweetheart. Or she can play a Vishkanya - either ways its a nod to her role from Dhurandhar
