Actually, if one isn't blinded by hate, Pakistan should be a brother to India (the father died at partition, killed by the Brits and extremists on both sides)... Gandhi had been the last father... he made the Brits go away without using violence, but he could not prevent that out of o n e two got born... and like in some families, the younger one got hostile towards the older one (but not all the people living in both parts should be judged as a 'package')... imo
Gandhi didn't make anybody go away, he was a British agent who delayed freedom by decades and coherced "Indian soldiers" to go die for the Empire in the World wars. Fancy for a "Non-Violent" man.
He didn't even want freedom, just more rights until years later a Young Bhagat Singh demanded Poorna Swaraj, complete independence. Gandhi insecure of Singhs popularity also got on the train.
The anger among the people was such that a couple more Instances like the rebellion of 1857 or Revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad or Subhash Chandra Bose and the British would've lost all control. Gandhi kept the Public in check. A well placed pawn that historically always ended up pushing the British Agenda.
The British left on their own terms when there was nothing left of India, but not before breaking it into two pieces.
