It really depends on which aspect of India’s interests you’re looking at—because the impact of Donald Trump has been mixed rather than purely positive or negative. On the positive side, during his tenure there was a clear strengthening of India–US strategic ties. Cooperation increased in areas like defense, Indo-Pacific security, and countering China’s influence. This alignment suited India’s long-term geopolitical interests, especially in balancing regional power dynamics. The overall diplomatic tone between the two countries was also quite strong. However, there were also challenges. His “America First” policies created friction in trade—India lost certain benefits like GSP (Generalized System of Preferences), and there were disagreements over tariffs. Immigration policies, especially around H-1B visas, also impacted many Indian professionals, which is an important economic and social factor for India. So it’s not accurate to say he was fully “helping” or “hurting” India. Strategically, the relationship became closer. Economically and in terms of immigration, there were tensions. In simple terms: He was **good for strategic alignment**, but **tough on economic and immigration fronts**. Whether that is beneficial overall depends on what priority you give—security and geopolitics, or trade and people movement.
