That’s how it’s most cultures too, but I have seen/heard instances of men getting married to their brother’s widow to take responsibility if they are single and want to marry rather than the woman being widow for life or not getting any future husband at all because of misogyny where a woman is considered to be expired of some sort after marrying once and being a widow for life. I don’t find anything wrong in that if both are okay with it. I know one couple like that and the husband loves the wife crazily.

Doesn’t happen here in majority of the country. Men would rather take care of their SILs and her kids financially, maybe get her married off to someone else if she’s willing and they find a decent match. But marrying her themselves is off the table.

She’s to be protected by you like a sister, a daughter or a mother figure if she’s widowed, not to be taken as wife.

Most of them were just unable to grasp the basic concept that Nandini had been duped into the marriage and when she wanted to divorce him, he took her to a holiday on the pretext of giving their marriage one last chance and therein he forced himself upon her.

To them, he was her husband and therefore there was nothing like coercion or assault. They conveniently ignored that Nandini had filed for divorce; she had already made up her mind to separate from him legally. So if she’s saying that she was unwilling and had been assaulted, then there was merit in her statement and the claims.

Mihir himself was aghast when Tulsi told him in blunt words that Ansh raped Nandini and his response was - But he’s her husband, how can he rape her?

I am happy that the show covered this marital rape topic and showed how it's monstrous and not something to be normalised. Out of lots of other craps, I am glad that this show touched such sensitive topics and gave such a strong messagesmiley27. Only if the storyline could have been a bit better I mean constantly female leads getting villainized was not right

I don’t see it as villainising the female leads. I see them being treated as anomalies.

Everyone says how Kyunki was inspired by Mother India which is true but they forget that the movie ends with her killing her son and we never quite see the consequences of her actions on her following the same, not just legal but also emotional, psychological and the way she’s got to deal with the people around her right from her other son to her neighbours, acquaintances and ironically even the man whose daughter she saved.

Kyunki went there. We saw Tulsi having to face the repercussions of her actions which while justified, warranted and even needed weren’t understood immediately, forgiven absolutely and ignored legally. She went to jail and moreover was ostracised by her own family and husband for the same.

Kyunki showed how even though you could be doing the right thing, you had to pay the price for the same especially if your actions went against the tide and were not accepted let alone understood by most people, which could involve your own family members.

That had happened before Karan came. when Gautam came he was kind of very spoilt child, so yes at that time he was pressurized.

But by the Karan came and especially his identity got disclosed he had become the apple of family's eye

From what I remember the sequence was:

Tulsi-Mihir give their first born to Kiran-Arti cause they cannot have a child of their own.

He returns to India years later as a total brat, calls himself Gomzi with a deep resentment towards Viranis to the extent that he terrorises Shobha at college in the name of ragging. Saahil is shown to return from abroad to join the family business. (On the sidelines, talking of age, in a friendly banter Shobha even asks Saahil to call her Dismiley36) He even accompanies her to college to protect her from getting bullied and even has an exchange with Gautam.

Tulsi "reforms" Gomzi to Gautam and is welcome at Shantiniketan. However, Saahil and Gautam have the typical sibling rivalry because by then Saahil has been involved in the family business and is the "ideal son" where as Gautam is trying to "fit-in" the family as much as get involved in the family business.

In one such instance, Karan (who is wanting revenge from Viranis for how his mother was treated) enters Viranis' life as Saahil's (and Ganga's) friend and cashes on the sibling rivalry to create misunderstandings.

He partners with Viranis with a company if his own "Mandira something" (which he later shuts down)

It is during this time that Karan and Gautam develop a huge rivalry/animosity. Each wanting a revenge of their own leading to Gautam either having to call a truce or being blamed. (Make no mistake, he wasn't flawless, he was, like the others, flawed)

Karan comes to know of his mother's truth and that is when he reforms. Infact, if i remember right, Amba and Gautam go to Karan to persuade him to accept them as family and shift to Shantiniketan as the son of the house. He starts calling Gautam "bade bhai".

Infact, it is the duo (Gautam-Karan) who discover Ansh's identity. Saahil starts feeling left out at that point. Then with Karan becoming the GOD sent child, both Gautam and Saahil feel like second class citizens.

So, Gautam was never the "apple" of anyone's eyes, atleast till this point. Iske baad Ansh wala track kabhi follow nahin kiya except the episode where Tulsi shoots him because that was the talk of the town.

Parth feels like he is just tagging along, almost like a stepchild to the story. There is zero interaction or scenes with Nandini or Samaira. The writing feels weak and underdeveloped.

I don’t understand Karan. Why is he insisting in staying in US when he can do the same business in India? He keeps saying it took him so long to set the business there, but no one is asking him to leave US in one day. He can take his time. Why is he insisting in staying in US then?? It’s not like he lived in the US since childhood or for years that he is now used to living there and can’t live in India anymore. His whole family is in India but he insists on staying in US just for business which he can do in India. He’s willing to break his marriage and make his child sad just for business
