This is the day we've been waiting for. It started with 20 teams, and now only two remain. Defending champions India take on the ever-consistent New Zealand on the biggest stage of them all, in the biggest stadium of them all. More than 100,000 in the crowd and more than a billion following across the globe. One way or another, history will be made. Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the T20 World Cup final. This isn't going to be one for the faint hearted.
We've had 54 matches across eight venues in the last month, and they've been a joy to follow. The rise of the Associates, Zimbabwe's journey to the Super Eights, excellent crowds at most venues - this World Cup has given us so much to cherish. Now we're left with the small matter of deciding the title. After all, that's what this is all about. All the preparation, all the planning will amount to very little if the trophy isn't in your hands when the dust settles. No one will know that better than New Zealand who have made the final multiple times over the last two decades, only to come out second best.
What India have achieved over the last two years is unheard of in T20 cricket. A win percentage of close to 80 percent is ridiculous in a format meant to be unpredictable. No wonder they came in as heavy favourites into this tournament, and barring the odd blip, they've carried that tag very well. Today they face a familiar opponent in a New Zealand side they beat 4-1 in a five-match series in January. But that was a bilateral series. World Cup finals are different gravy.

Well, the pitch is said to be a mix of red and black soil and it straightaway indicates that it will definitely be better for batting than the black soil pitch used for the India-South Africa game few days ago. The better the pitch for batting, the better chances for India. It's as simple as that. But it won't be as straightforward as it sounds. 190 is the minimum the team batting first should be aiming for. Actually that number has to go past 200 since there's red soil involved. And no side has defended less than 180 here.
The players arrived a few minutes ago and were received with dhols at the gate. Phillips seems to be one of the first to take the field. He's doing some visualising from behind the stumps.
Ahmedabad is buzzing with energy today. The Indian Railways have organised special trains to the city for the final from various places. Tourist attractions, restaurants, malls are brimming with people. The massive blue wave is moving towards Motera to cheer for their favourite team, albeit with a slight fear of the idea of India playing a World Cup final here. Fans badly want to erase memories of November 19, 2023. It all started with the pitch that day. Cut to today: what's in store?
Thank you for the tag ☺️
Good luck to Team india

Abhishek Sharma vs off-spin
Bowling an off-spinner early to Abhishek has been an easy strategy for the opponents in this competition. That's because he's been out thrice to right arm offies, scoring just 29 runs off 27 balls and the dot ball percentage is a whopping 48. It's clear he hasn't been comfortable. So expect New Zealand to throw the McConchie matchup immediately. What should Abhishek do? Maybe fight the goal and not the ego, let Sanju Samson or another batter try more and just use cricketing smarts? Because there's so much potential later on. With the exception of Lockie Ferguson, 225 is Abhishek's lowest strike rate against the rest of the New Zealand bowlers. And once he gains confidence he literally is unstoppable.

arre!! becharon ko jinx mat karo
Pitch report | Ian Bishop and Eoin Morgan: It (the surface) clearly is a dark color. And then over to my left, quickly, it’s a red color. And they both play quite differently. So what have we got? Something in between for today’s game, a mix of red and black (soil). The dimensions of the ground stand up well. 70 meters to my right, 68 to my left, and 72 down the ground. Well, what an event. And the actual anti-spray (dew) makes it more of an even balance. It means the pitch will stay the same, as will conditions throughout. If we have a look at the surface here, there is a beautiful covering of grass, tinge of green, however, which shouldn’t really change much things. The new ball might get a bit of swing, bit of seam, but predominantly, this is going to be a really good surface to bat on. It’s notoriously not much on offer for the spinners at this ground. So I’m expecting a high-scoring ground, 190, 200. Good day for the batters.
