South Africa vs Zimbabwe T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 pitch report

SA captain Aiden Markram has led a well-balanced side that has impressed in both the batting and bowling departments. Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi have spearheaded the bowling attack with 11 wickets each, while Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj have provided solid support. The batting line-up, featuring Markram, Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton, has also been in excellent form, with the middle order adding further firepower.

Don't count out Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe may already be eliminated from the running to make it to the semi-final. But don’t count them out from effecting one final takedown of a team which is the heavy favourite. They have already done so twice in the tournament, defeating tournament favourites Australia and co-hosts Sri Lanka on the way to emerging as the giant killers of the group stages.

South Africa have already secured a semi-final berth after victories over India and the West Indies, becoming the first team in the group to reach four points. Led by Aiden Markram, they will aim to maintain their winning run. Zimbabwe, captained by Sikandar Raza, are out of contention following losses to the same opponents and will look to conclude their campaign with a consolation win.

Apart from Sikandar Raza's 43-ball 73, there wasn't much for Zimbabwe to cheer about in that batting effort. 153 isn't a total that will cause too much concern in the South African camp as they get ready for the chase. The Proteas rested a few of their bowlers, giving the likes of Nortje, Maphaka and Linde a game today. All three of them were in the wickets, with Maphaka finishing with 2/21. The pitch looks decent to bat on, and the Zimbabwe bowlers - coming off a hammering at the hands of West Indies and India - might not find it any easier against a batting lineup in good nick. Back shortly..

Kwena Maphaka - I think it was really good. The boys really just stuck to the processes. I think we kind of had an idea what was going to happen out there. And we just did it really well. So I'm really pleased with the boys' performance. Getting my first World Cup wicket, having my mother here, and family watching back home - I think it's really special. I think I just really tried to put the ball in the right area and it came off today. So I was really happy with that. I think there's still a lot to work on with my bowling. Obviously, there's been significant progress since I was last in India, but I anticipate much more to come. I think really strong positions and just hitting the ball in the right areas. It's a good wicket, so I think the boys will do really well here.
