Yeah thats what I thought. Adoption doesnt stipulate marriage. It is straightforward for a single parent but little difficult for a single male parent I guess. If DK is not married to Mannat, how come he can adopt Dua is my question. I read in this forum only that he is adopted father, thats why the question of Mannat saying hamari beti in front of Vik came into my mind.

So they just falsified the document?

I guess DK can adopt but Vik would have to consent and give up his paternal rights in court.

Now there is no point to adopt because the biological parent is in the scene ofcourse. I think it would have been complicated if DK and Mannat were married. Then by extension Dua would have become his child. Yeah I dont think the name in birth cerficiate will make any difference. It is tied to legal adoption or marriage.

I don't believe marriage will give any legal rights either, atleast the legal knowledge I have . He still have to adopt with parents consent.

DK has not adopted Dua. And he is not married to Mannat.

His name was added on birth certificate after a few months (the baby shown in that scene was close to year old)... till then the certificate had a blank space. Ronnie agreed to this without any coercion.

Later, in one of the episodes, DK wanted to tear up the birth certificate so that no one casts aspersions on Mannats character. But she refused. (Vik had not arrived in Indore by then and hadnt met her)

Infact interestingly, Mannat is repeatedly slipping when she is around Vik and in a panicked stressed situation... so far she has hinted/blurted to Vik atleast thrice that Dua is his daughter.

Mannat was quite resolute till she hadnt met him... but the repeated meetings are also taking a toll on her resolve it feels.

This had come up during lost too incase you have forgotten ...

In India, a single female can adopt a child of any gender but a single male can only adopt a male gender child. He cannot adopt a female.

Even if DK/M had married it doesn’t take away the legal rights of the biological father, he’d still have to consent to give up any rights, only then can DK legally go to court for adoption. It’s going to be messy when it will be revealed that Vik wasn’t aware of the pregnancy, therefore didn’t reject the baby. And what M/DK decide to do then, and once Vik finds out what he’ll do in turn 🙁….

I think Sadiltl’s original question was more as a cohabiting couple, Mannat the birth mother , can DK adopt as the father if M/DK don’t marry eo. Not DK as a single male.

Interestingly if both ManVik die, would DK be able to adopt Dua as a single male, as the paternal uncle ?

Yeah yeah there it was clear. Here I was not sure if DK is adoptive father or not. I read here in the forum that he is adoptive so I was wondering how did it happen. There is no marriage in place and the bio father is alive etc...

Now I am clear. They just falsified the docs. Makes sense. DK has no legal right on Dua. Mannat actually destroyed him by falsifying the document right? And he is a police officer who agreed to do it?!!!

See DK's relation with Dua is completely at mercy of Mannat. Even Mannat cant do anything if Vik claims Dua. Instead DK will be suspended if they found out he falsified. Either a marriage with Mannat would have given him some rights on Dua by extension. He has become "curry leaf" basically in all this. It is just an emotional bond. Poor guy has invested his life and emotions in return for NOTHING.

Don’t forget Vikrant is DK’s younger brother i.e Dua is DK’s niece so the bond can still remain very strong and loving , if DK, Mannat and Vikrant are sensible adults and overcome their differences for Dua’s sake.
