India has been quite …. Bad at chasing. All the marches they have won comfortably, they have won batting first. I’m actually worried about our top order firing today.

Pitch Report: Temperature in the low 30s, and not much humidity. Ideal for playing cricket, says Ravi Shastri. 64m and 67m square boundaries, with a 72m hit straight down the ground. Black-soil pitch and this is pitch number five, which was used for the Ind-SA bilateral game in December. This has a little less grass than the previous matches at this venue. More cracks involved too. Shaun Pollock expects it to be a good wicket throughout, but he is a little worried about how much of a part dew could play.

Suryakumar Yadav: I was actually looking to bat first, but it’s okay. We played here two or three days back and when they were bowling first, there was a little bit in the wicket, so why not take that advantage? It’s a big game, a great occasion for everyone to step up and show their character. It’s a full house tonight, hopefully, and we’ve got a good game for them. It’s the business end now, so you’ve got to bring your A-game. We do have three league games, but you have to deliver that punch from ball one, and I think tonight is the right time. We’ll look to bring good energy on the field, follow our good habits, and take whatever result comes our way. The pitch looks quite similar to the previous black soil surface we played on, just one strip away, not too much change. We’re happy to bowl first. It’s very harsh on Axar Patel, but we’re going with the same team - just a tactical decision, so no changes from the last game.

Mustafa : "As an Afghan fan watching cricket early in the morning from Washington, DC, I truly believe that in this World Cup, the only team capable of challenging mighty India is South Africa." -- Well, we are about to find out tonight...

Aiden Markram: We gonna bat first, really a good wicket and lot drier than what we have seen. The boys are looking in good touch and it's a good place to be at the moment. We have been fortunate to play a couple of games here, this is black soil pitch. We have made 4 changes from the previous game. Kesh, Lungi and Marco come back in.

Varun Chakaravarthy: (On having a good record against SA at this venue) Well, those matches were played a month before and obviously things have changed after that, but I would say the wicket did help me a bit because it skids more, yeah. (What's important at this venue?) Exactly as I told you, the pitch, if it provides more skid, it sometimes helps me because I’m generally more quicker through the air and so I get a little more help here. (Bowling in the middle overs) It’s just taking wickets, picking wickets. So my role in the team is to pick wickets and I do bowl quite often in the powerplay also because in the last two series, all the matches I have bowled in the powerplay. So I’m used to that also. (On the support for this game) Means a lot because this ground, when it’s packed, it’s totally different. It has a different vibe to it and we are all looking forward to this experience here. (On defending totals) Yeah, it is challenging because small ground and flat wickets. I hope we could play more in Sri Lanka because of the turning tracks, but this is the conditions that we have in front of us. So can’t complain much. Things have been going well for the team and yeah, hopefully we can continue it.
