It's raining in Pallekele and the entire ground is under covers. However, the forecast is for the weather to improve as the day progresses and hopefully we'll have some cricket. Mind you, a washout will be enough for Zimbabwe to qualify and it'll also result in the elimination of Australia. For now, toss has been delayed

No Vera, Australia currently have only 2 points. If they beat Oman (which they might), they will go up to only 4 points. So, washout between Zimbabwe and Ireland will knock both Ireland and Australia out of the tournament and with 5 points Zimbabwe will go to Super 8s.

Sorry, I thought Australia had 4 points. Rain or Zimbabwe winning, both will have the same outcome I think.

Alan: "Zimbabwe have played this tournament like men possessed. The intent and focus they have shown so far makes them deserving of a finals berth. It would be a shame if their qualification is attributed to weather, because they have earned this." -- Don't think many will attribute it to weather because, well, they did beat Australia. But if given the choice, they might also want to win today to give themselves a further shot in the arm before the Super Eights.

Before the T20 World Cup began, many thought the associate nations would make the first round one-sided and predictable. But what a surprise! Every associate team has played fearless, competitive cricket and pushed the big teams to the limit. Cricket wins. Long live the game

It's still a light drizzle, but it looks dark behind and we can barely see the hills in the background. Plenty of water on the covers and we can see droplets falling onto the blue sheets. As is the case at any Sri Lankan venue, the entire ground is under covers.
