Vaibhav Sooryavanshi looked set for his maiden double century, and the first-ever in an Under-19 World Cup, but missed the landmark by 25 runs. Still, his innings of 175 is arguably the greatest ever played, with the commentators drawing comparisons with Kapil Dev’s immortal knock against Zimbabwe at the 1983 World Cup. Sooryavanshi’s carnage, which included 13 sixes and 13 fours, may have ended, but with more than half the innings left, India could well eye in excess of 450 or more.

Sooryavanshi, 14, entered the record books by smashing a 55-ball century against England in the U19 World Cup final on Friday. The 14-year-old reserved his best for the last, hitting a whirlwind ton to help India bludgeon the England colts. His innings was studded with a plethora of boundaries and a range of sixes as he blew the wind out of England's sails. England’s captain Thomas Rew looked shell-shocked behind the stumps as Suryavanshi cruised to his century in true crash, bang and wallop style.
