Hard disagree. Look at the protagonists of Ramayana and Mahabharata, our constitution gives way more power to women than Sita or Draupadi had. Even socially, several things which happened to them would be frowned upon even in the most traditional khaap panchayat. And that's mythical. We have to keep it in mind that history and myths are different.

Historically that's just not true at all. Even if you go as far as Rigveda, it's very clear that patriarchy was the system. All the kings are men. Most of the hymns were written by men, and compared to 329 men women were only 27. And the discrimination simply kept increasing as the Mahajanapadas formed (women subordination is a necessary part of any aristocratic society, to maintain the patrilineal line pure). By the time proper law code, manu smriti was written it's very clear how degraded women's conditions were.

Today if a woman wants, she can own property of any kind, not just streedhana and garbhadhana, divorce her husband, refuse to obey her family, her in laws, has reproductive freedom, and is legally allowed to do whatever she wants. She's her own person, an equal. Not a goddess, because it's goddesses who are burdened with ridiculous scrutiny and moral burdens.

You're not being serious , right ?

Because if you are, I completely and wholeheartedly disagree with everything you said.

Literal wars were fought over Draupadi and Sita's sake. Entire dynasties and clans and even their remote supporters were completely uprooted to restore their honor and avenge them. Far worse is happening to women folks all around the world every day and the difference is , nobody gives a damn . They just scroll away to the next reel on their mobile .

Everything you said about women enjoying nowadays all of those only remain in paper and the actual lived reality couldn't be furthest from that. Women have zero rights, zero dignity , zero position in society, no safety during travel, at their educational institutions, at their work places ( they're getting brutally raped and murdered where they work . ) , they're nor safe even in their own homes and the worst part ? Literally no one cares and no justice is done.

Women couldn't be further from being their own person or an equal by any measure.

Even recently a delhi swat commando got killed by her husband and soon we'll forget about it. This is state of women living in top tier cities, highly educated and working. Then just imagine the lives of those less fortunate.

Reality couldn't be further from the utopia you described.

Atleast in ancient India , there wasn't this disparity and these absolute moral degradation and objectification of women. Their lives were 100 times more respectful, secure and peaceful compared to now.

Heinous things happening to women and yet they now have to prove themselves as an equal to men in every field. No respite anywhere for them.

Patriarchy is still here and stronger than ever. The moral code that used to protect them as a shield is gone from the society and women are now standing under the glare of open sun.

Believe me, if there was a timetable I'd just take it and go live in ancient India and not turn back for a second.

Which is why Naagin as a story really inspires me. A female creature with so much power and agency is only possible in fiction not in reality.

Agree with everything that you have said but the bold part. There hasn't been an era or time when women had it easy. It's just that the form of disrespect, suffering were different. They were used and abused then, they are being used and abused even now.
