I don't think Mandira loved Karan only because he was Mihir's child, but I can understand if Karan took it that way once the truth was revealed
to be honest even then he didn't immediately start hating Mandira, the scene where Payal slaps Karan (with an intent to expose Priyanka) actually had Karan standing for Mandira (despite knowing Viranis will hate that) and told that whatever she did was wrong but that doesn't mean anyone can badmouth her after her death..He still had love for her despite an anger
But then it was revealed that Priyanka is Mandira so a second blow. it was like not just my mother cheated me once but she can do it repeatedly.
So I agree, he started not loving her, I still feel hate is a strong word because he never did anything against her till the time she decided to abduct Bhoomi, even while his plan when Aditya and Mandira were married was to just save Gautam and not to harm Mandira
But even if you don't love, she still is your mother, you can't change that fact, can you at least adress her respectfully. Not use her name while talking about her
I really hoped a track back then when Mandira was ill/bed ridden and Karan doesn't know what to do
You need nuanced writing for such characters and stories. ITV unfortunately is not capable of delivering nuanced characters.

This is a scene from a cartoon show on Netflix called Bojack Horseman. The character you see in the middle of the gif is a minor character and you can see that he’s clearly physically a bigger character than the other two on those swings and yet he appears to be the one with the lightest weight if you observe the way those swings are carrying these characters. That’s an allegory for the mental state of these characters. The one in the middle recognised his issues, he then accepted them, has been working on them and has made enough progress to appear the lightest person on those swings.
The other two are struggling and the main character, Bojack, the Horse, is the most complicated and self destructive character in the show who is struggling to overcome the toxicity of his past that’s made him such a horrible, narcissistic and self-loathing person on a journey to destroy himself.
Tell me if you can find one show on ITV today or in the recent years that has half the gravitas that I just described when it comes to penning their characters and stories.
Karan’s journey could’ve been very complex and he could’ve always felt like a bit of an outsider in SN despite everything because he didn’t grow up there, there are jokes, memories and things he was never a part of and could never be. There would be people who would always remind him of his status as an illegitimate child accepted by Tulsi.
He could have been shown carving his own identity beyond the Virani family by getting closer to his maternal family aka Anupam, Kesar and his cousin sisters. Maybe shown having weekly dinners with them, perhaps an outing or a trip occasionally. Some friends outside of SN too like Kabir and Kamya iirc who helped him to cheat the Viranis. But once he got to SN he had no life beyond it and no relationship outside of the people in that house. I mean Ekta even had his love interest settled in SN so they didn’t have to show Karan spending fake money for fake petrol/diesel required to run his immobile car to take him to her house/workplace so they can share time together and fall in love!
