So India flex their batting might and in such conditions and on such flat pitches, they are a side to be feared. That's why they will be on the big favorites to retain their World Cup when it happens next month in India and Sri Lanka. New Zealand though would be looking to fight back, they are a side who are missing Finn Allen and Tim Seifert and once that duo join them, they will be quite a side too. The 2nd game is on 23rd of Jan. We will be there for that one. Do join us then.

India take a 1-0 series lead with a comprehensive win. It was built on batting intent more than anything. How will New Zealand bounce back?

True, nowadays I dont know what has happened to India team esp ODI and Test match. Teams are coming and breaking 10-20-30 years record by winning series against India in india. Its quite shameful.

I hope our fielding improves, fielding coach needs to be strict and players need to be serious too. See how Rinku said nothing to worry about when asked about drop catch ugh.

Haan, they really need to be taken to task. Jaddu, Rohit, Vk are all really good fielders. Why aren’t the others putting in more efforts?

India definitely needs to do some homework for fielding. Feel like saying Women’s cricket team se seekho kuch. They have largely disciplined bowling & really good fielding.

There should be a system for fining lethargic fielding efforts like bowlers for taking a long time to bowl an over. Only when they loose matches and series due to fielding lapses, will they learn to work on it. If there’s one thing I really like about Aussies — it’s their fielding efforts. You’ll hardly see such casual dismissal of bad fielding. Sigh.

Indian cricket's fielding struggles stem from a historical focus on batting/bowling, inconsistent training, cultural emphasis on academics over sports, and selection policies sometimes favoring specialists over athletic all-rounders, leading to lapses in concentration, technique, and fitness compared to top fielding nations like Australia/NZ, though recent years have seen improvement with talents like Jadeja/Kohli, yet consistency remains a challenge.

The dry grounds and humid conditions are also reasons for poor fielding.

Irrespective of the other factors, the players need to be physically fit to be able to run, jump, skid and bend to stop the ball. They need to train in fielding along with batting and bowling.

As long as we concentrate only on batting and bowling the success rate is not going to change.

By the way, if the stat says a decade old record or 20 year record was broken, it doesn't necessarily mean our fielding was good earlier.

Pitches were made to suit our spinners and if you look at the history, some spinners from other countries also had success on our grounds.

This is just my observation.

Cheers..

I fully agree with all factors mentioned by above members with their good observations.

In this 1st T20I, Rinku Singh’s presence lifted India’s fielding to a noticeably higher level!! Stationed on the boundary, he was razor-sharp, cutting off shots that seemed destined for the ropes and repeatedly turning fours into singles or twos. His anticipation, agility, and clean work near the boundary saved several crucial runs and kept constant pressure on the NZ batters. Rinku’s athletic effort in the deep proved to be a silent yet significant factor in India’s control over the game.
