Three individual 50-plus scores for New Zealand is joint-most (10th instance) for them against India in an ODI innings.

Both sides will feel reasonably satisfied with that total. New Zealand because this wasn’t a batting paradise - the surface was two-paced and there was assistance for the quicks even with the older ball. India because they did well to claw things back after that opening stand. Conway and Nicholls began watchfully to see off the new-ball threat, then once they were set, shifted gears and added 117 for the first wicket. Their dismissals in quick succession created a brief wobble, but Daryl Mitchell steadied the innings, kept the scoreboard ticking and brought up a well-made fifty. He looked set for a big finish before falling in the penultimate over, though Kristan Clarke and Jamieson still pushed the total to 300. India seamers accounted for 6 of the 8 wickets, underlining that pace off the ball is the most effective way to bowl here. Now it all comes down to the dew - if it settles in, India should be well placed to chase 301; if not, we could be in for a fascinating finish. Back in 30..
