I can see valid points by both @you2 and @Sultan.Mirza. It WOUDL be nice to evolve the cinema viewing public and not make movies JUST FOR glorification of toxic masculinity, or make superfluous movies that have too much s8x and violence just for shock value. But the truth is: we cannot control what OTHERS like. What we might see as Truly Magnificent and GAME CHANGER (Dhurandhar) might not be what certain viewers want - they MIGHT LIKE gratuitous s&x and violence and the ridiculous 'one man army' silly VFX. They might like Toxic for entertainment, or for hero, or for the scenes. Hard to change mindsets and preferences. And, yes, S*x sells. Yes it would be nice if directors and movie makers were not so greedy for money, that they didn't sell their conscience for Box office success, but man, they might be desperate. In desperation, people do ANYTHING to make success. And some directors even like to make this ridiculous masala movies, to include s*x scenes. They ENJOY this type of thing themselves. So , knowing there's AUDIENCE for this stuff, they will continue to make. So yes, it will be VERY DIFFICULT to elevate Indian cinema to HW levels, not because HW doesn't do bad movies or movies with s*x and violence but because they DO TRY, mostly, to make QUALITY MOVIES. Whilst Indian movies suffer BECAUSE OF LACK of QUALITY - many times. YES, I KNOW there are MANY QUALITY movies in India, not just in BW but in the other languages and movie industries, but THEY ARE NOT AS KNOWN, or AS SUCCESSFUL, as say, SOUTH KOREAN movies. If you ask, in a worldwide scale, a normal cinemagoer, they would rate movies like this: Hollywood- mostly good movies, South Korea- really good movies and series, so good that HW is copying many S Korea. Japan- good industry but very artistic, same with UK and Spain, Mexico, Brasil and European industries. Usually Europe is hailed as 'artsy' movies. Then you have Middle East that also gives good movies, sporadically. Indian market - IN GENERAL, is seen as 'dance, fluff, ridiculous one man Rambo hero movies'. That is the HARSH truth. Then it's China with BOMBASTIC movies, either SciFi or Historic dramas, tbut even those do not sell MUCH besides China border , in most cases (otherwise they would not let US/European movies in). Even Australia gets a piece of the pie lately, or Thailand, Turkey. But yeah, this is what 90% of Westerners think of movies from these industries. For Indian movies to get to the level of say, South Korea, you need MORE movies like Dhurandhar,'insert whatever movie you think is extra quality' movies with quality scripts. Not just actors and directors - script is KING in the movie world of today. Not saying India doesn't have VERY GOOD movies but they are NOT PROMOTED, or supported by MASSES, they aren't promoted abroad. NOT ENOUGH, not to the extent of the S Korean movies. This is why even Egypt or Mexico or Brasil movies get traction in the WEST- they are PROMOTED and supported IN THEIR HOMES FIRST, at national level, so this way they make their way to the World auience. Support and promotion of GOOD SCRIPT is the key. Masive investure in good scriptwriting is what can change the game, alongside with a unified, national support, that can 'push' Indian movies of quality to the worldwide scene. And impress the worldwide audiences.
